Rick~I am sorry to hear that your dad refuses to participate in maintaining his health. My mother got like that, once she had a major stroke. Like you said, you really can't force them. But I know that you did all that you could. You are a good son.

Dad has a V A new patient intake on August 26th 2011. The V A requested some blood sample prior to that day. Since I was off from work today (furlough) I took dad to the V A Outpatient Center.

It's amazing all of the men and women who have served our country in the military. When I think of wars, I think of the money and the lives lost. Today, I was very reminded of the physical and mental cost to our returning Vets. Bow

The center took nine vials of dad's blood. Dad commented that he didn't think he had any blood left. I said: If you can't give the government money - they just take your blood. smile

Am closing in on your dad's age, and can understand a lot of what's happening...
Forgetfulness... yeah... the biggest worry for all of us over 70... AZ
And the bit about exercise... it becomes more of a thing to be done out of some primordial guilt.
No two people are alike..
My aunt turns 90 in August... Two years ago she painted her farmhouse... two stories. She rototills her garden (about 1/2 acre, and spends an hour a day weeding etc. sharp as a tack.

My neighbor in FL... is 65, and never leaves the house... all day TV, and smokes 2 packs a day.

Good to encourage, but not to the point of causing a worse problem. From experience, my thinking is a day or two a week in some kind of social situation for an hour or two... senior center, church, veteran group, bingo... whatever... It establishes a regimen, and a point to life. My guess is that the VA will have some service to connect with this kind of socializing.
..............................

As I was poking through the internet, looking to see what kind of jobs are available, I came across this interesting opening...

Couple having sex in public pool disturbs other patrons

Quote
... cops noted, “All the witnesses were visibly disturbed by the incident.” While it is unclear what drove the couple to allegedly engage in public fornication, the heat wave gripping the country’s mid-section has forced many sweltering Americans to seek a cool, watery respite.

Really? "While it is unclear what drove the couple to allegedly engage in public fornication..." - it's not "clear" to the writer?

Hellloooooo! rolleyes

Arnold says 'No!' to paying Maria spousal support

Really Arnold? You destroy your family and you won't pay the piper?

Typical cheap-ass Republican. coffee

Hi all

I'm back.

After a long and somewhat sustained absence I am more or less back. Hopefully I will be able to contribute. The reasons for my absence are many but I have missed you guys.
