Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), squaring off against one of the bill's most ardent critics, conservative commentator Pat Buchanan, author of "State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America." Gutierrez serves as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus' Immigration Task Force and believes a compromise immigration reform bill is necessary, while Buchanan has said that it would be "the beginning of the end of the United States" if the bill goes through. In 1314, the forces of Scotland's King Robert I defeated the English in the Battle of Bannockburn.
In 1807, a grand jury in Richmond, Va., indicted former Vice President Aaron Burr on charges of treason and high misdemeanor. He was later acquitted. COINCIDENCE? I think not! Christian, n. One who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ insofar as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin.
Evangelist, n. A bearer of good tidings, particularly (in a religious sense) such as assure us of our own salvation and the damnation of our neighbors.
Faith, n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.
Infidel, n. In New York, one who does not believe in the Christian religion; in Constantinople, one who does.
Pray. v. To ask that the laws of the universe be annulled in behalf of a single petitioner, confessedly unworthy.
Religion, n. A daughter of Hope and Fear, explaining to Ignorance the nature of the Unknowable.
Reverence, n. The spiritual attitude of a man to a god and a dog to a man.
Saint, n. A dead sinner revised and edited. -- Ambrose Bierce From the Church of INEFFABLE STUPIDITY: a) Iraqnam SEVEN MORE US soldiers killed, their lives WASTED. Make that TEN MORE - - - b) Mitt Romney His fake police officer and top aide decided that taking a vacation might be a good thing. heh. Impersonating a police officer, threatening reporters, and worse, those are all felonies in some states. - - - c) The NRA's Senate bought, paid for, and owed. The senate killed a bill banning the sale of 50 cal sniper ammo. The AIPAC's Senate Bought, paid for, and owned. The K-Street's Senate Bought, paid for, and owned. The Big Pharma's Senate Bought, paid for, and owned. - - - - d) Christopher Vaughn he stopped his car, shot his wife in front of their kids, then shot his kids, then shot his own thigh to fake an injury. Now he's a jailbird in Illinois.

Good morning everyone. Finally got some sleep last night after the long night before with the board transfer. Thanks to everyone for their support, patience and understanding during the transfer.
Some notes:
Those with custom avatars will need to upload them again. I'm sorry but we tried everything we could to import them over but nothing worked. Please go into your profile settings to reset your avatar.
The same, I'm afraid, is true for birthdays. We thought we had an import solution set up to port the birthday settings over but it didn't work when we made the final transfer over early Saturday morning. Please go into your profile and reset your birthday and also check if you want it included in the profiles and calendars.
We will continue to work on refining the system and I hope it won't cause too many problems. We're trying to make everything as seamless as possible. If you have any problems or questions, please let us know.

Took a rest this mourning and turned on cspan for infotainment. I swear, there must be some widespread e-mail with neocon stalking points. It is as though they are programmed to repeat certain fave phrases, without thinking it through. The indies, by and large, seem well informed and concerned about the state of the state. The dems seem to be angry at the dems for not standing up. far more informative than anything but a james bond movie this early in on a sondei.

Both sides send out their talking points and encourage their faithful to use them on call-in shows, letters-to-the-editor and the like. If you also notice you will also see the talking heads on the Sunday talk shows using the same phrases over and over on each network.
Ah, the politics of redundancy.

Hello? Hey it worked! (It was giving me an error about being behind a firewall this morning).
It takes knowledge, study, and thought to remain free. It takes knowledge, study and thought to remain independent. What does that say about the folks who only repeat the talking points?

FROM THE CHURCH OF INEFFABLE STUPIDITY: a) Dick Cheney At the White House, [White House national security lawyer John] Bellinger sent Rice a blunt — and, he thought, private — legal warning. The Cheney-Rumsfeld position would place the president indisputably in breach of international law and would undermine cooperation from allied governments. …
One lawyer in his office said that Bellinger was chagrined to learn, indirectly, that Cheney had read the confidential memo and “was concerned” about his advice. Thus Bellinger discovered an unannounced standing order: Documents prepared for the national security adviser, another White House official said, were “routed outside the formal process” to Cheney, too. The reverse did not apply.
Powell asked for a meeting with Bush. The same day, Jan. 25, 2002, Cheney’s office struck a preemptive blow. It appeared to come from Gonzales, a longtime Bush confidant whom the president nicknamed “Fredo.” Hours after Powell made his request, Gonzales signed his name to a memo that anticipated and undermined the State Department’s talking points.
