Wonder what the penalty would be for saying, "Oh my God"?
While I'm not a "god" person - you have to believe that common sense would prevail in a situation like this. But, apparently not.
Atheist say, "Oh my God" probably near as frequent as theist. The term "bless you" is as common as apple pie.
Like NWP says, it was a "reflexive" or an unconscious comment, which is probably a common familial term to the kid.
And the world spins on...but just a wee bit crazier. Eons Aeons ago when I was in high school, a friend sneezed and I reflexively said, "God bless you." He replied: I'll bless myself (a budding atheist). After the initial shock wore off, I laughed. I also never said "Bless you" again whenever someone sneezed. BTW- it is stupid. If this is what concerns some teachers, it's no wonder that many kids can't read, write, or do arithmetic.
