IMO, it makes no difference what one calls him/herself. More important is the realization that, underneath the meaningless layers of external junk we load upon ourselves during the course of a lifetime, we are all the same. We come from the same place and end up in the same place. (Kind of along the lines of the Van Morrison lyrics Mickey posted earlier.)

Possibly relevant to that thought, I saw a bumper sticker the other day: Leaving one's mark is overrated.
