CHICAGO (CBS) – A new state law requires those who buy drain cleaners and other caustic substances to provide photo identification and sign a log.

It’s getting a rough reception from customers and merchants alike although perhaps none more than a cashier at Schroeder’s True Value Hardware in Lombard.

...snip...

State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Woodstock) obtained passage of the new law following attacks in which drain cleaner was poured on two Chicago women, badly scarring them.
I would think that such a law would be thrown out because it unfairly discriminates against those who cannot afford or for other reasons cannot easily or conveniently obtain photo ID. coffee

I don't "get" how government issue ID are required for alcohol purchases, gun purchases, spray paint purchases, certain cold medicines, go through airport security, now purchasing drain openers, but asking for a government issue ID when one votes is "disenfranchising" folks?

I dunno, something's beginning to smell fishy...[Linked Image from i48.photobucket.com]

If that happened, wouldn't every other law requiring a government issued ID be thrown out as well?

...but they haven't. Hmm

America needs 'brain cleaner' moreso than drain cleaner. Surely photo i.d. would and should be required for b-cleaner where I'll agree i.d. to purchase a compound for cleaning drains is over the top.

Brain cleaner would represent a threat to those that own this nation lock, stock and barrel.

In Portland, Oregon stores that sell spray paint keep it under lock and key to hopefully prevent "taggers" from obtaining such. It's high weirdness to go into Lowe's and see the spray paint kept behind a heavy gauge, mesh door. When you try to buy a can of flat white or whatever the sales attendant eyes you as if you are a terrorist as they unlock the caged cans of paint. You've also had to wait ten minutes for someone to show up so you can choose your dangerous weapon; I.E., aerosol paint. Somehow you both feel guilty and psychologically 'dirty' buying a can of spray paint...pissed off too. / : |

Our nanny state environment has gone 'screaming yellow zonkers' nuts. It so too proves as to what 'chickenheads' our citizens have degenerated since 9/11.

We have traitors in high office and Congress shepherding a nation of quivering cowards who are more than willing to give up their freedom for a bit of imagined safety, they deserve neither paraphrasing Ben Franklin.

That is one REALLY stupid law. It would regulate sales of noxious substances, which certainly must include Chicago Cubs tickets.

I'm not advocating for a bunch of photo id required situations, but it seems that there is a difference between your list of potentially dangerous scenarios and voting.

Unless you know of anybody being killed or injured by an illegally cast vote?

Really, Schlacky, do you think that photo id's would have affected the way the Supremes voted? Hmm

it and laws like it are absurd. none of them address the drug problem and none of them will. if you cut off meth, there will be something to take its place. it's a constant goose chase.

sure, you can talk to god, but if you don't listen then what's the use? so, onward through the fog!
