presuming that your point is that it is reasonable to ask for a photo ID in order to vote.... I pretty much agree. As long as government takes the initiative to supply each registered voter with a photo ID/Voters Registration, I really don't either. Putting the burden on the citizens to comply would disenfranchise some voters. But after all, that is the point of the whole thing. Disenfranchising voters who tend to vote for the Democratic Party.

Government requiring a "photo Id " to purchase a common consumer product but objects to the same "restrictions" on voting ? Most curious ! >Mech Look at it this way, Mechanic. Needing a photo ID to buy Draino is less likely to cause you and your country's well being to go down the drain than needing a photo ID for the purpose of politicians bird-dogging and control voting behaviors. But either way - imposing photo IDs is just more way government, big and small, will track and control our lives. Just goes to show ya. Both Liberal and Conservatives in government are obsessed with controlling rather than leading. Next Photo ID requirement: Exit Poll Interviews with the Media.

The argument being presented is that an ID is required for many things these days: spray paint purchases, cigarette purchases, alcohol purchases, fire arm purchases, boarding an airliner. I just don't see nor understand the difficulty in obtaining a government issue ID. I'm not talking driver's license, but a photo ID. Asking to see the photo ID prior to being issued a ballot, I just don't see the issue.

I've seen voter rolls from the 1800s and signing the voter roll was required back then. It's actually how I tracked relatives at ancestry.com.

It just occurred to me that in the movies, when you see someone trying to retrieve a ring from having gone down the drain, they take apart the trap under the sink and water spews everywhere... NUMAN! must be on the roof helping! I've never had to clean a trap, but I now know not to start on the roof!

But then out of 150 million votes...you might find a few thousand dishonest people who think that they can sway a general election by fraudulent means. You know, the few thousand folks dishonest voting behavior that are used as the impetus by politicians to impose restrictions on an entire nation...

There were only 8 votes between Romney and Santorum. Let's say some dirty rascal wanted Santorum to win and voted one extra time in nine different counties because ID wasn't required - Santorum would have won the Iowa caucuses and we'd have a backwards thinking, evangelical individual racing towards the GOP nomination. Oh wait! Santorum actually did win the Iowa caucuses - but no one changed the score card and Romney is listed as the official winner.
