Sooo... testing the Blackout for Wiki. Right... doesn't come up. What does show up is ASK which used to be Ask Jeeves. IMHO, possibly the best website on the internet for misinformation. When you Google search for an answer prefacing it with terms like "Who are.." or "How many..." or "How do I...." then ASK comes up with the question and the most recent answer, usually written by a 6 year old, home schooled in Bangladesh. The website makes no disclaimer about the SOPA protest, so it can be assumed that it is using this period to introduce this sad replacement for wiki, and to boost viewership. Aye... 'tis an ill wind.... Emergency crews all over the US should be on alert for the disasters resulting from people who went to "ASK" to try and fix plumbing or cars... or to find solutions for medical problems. For a few good laughs while Wiki is down, try this: Ask --- Recent Questions

From Wiki Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge
For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia. Learn more. Fox... in its' attempt to save the planet tells you how to avoid the boycott. Ways to avoid the Wiki Boycott. At least they didn't suggest "ASK". If you really need Wiki... search in Google, and click on "cached".

Lloyd Doggett, Dem from Texas offers and alternative to the SOPA Bill, which is the OPEN Bill Lamar Smith, Rep from Texas created the SOPA Bill. Doggett calls fighting copyright infringement a "reasonable goal." He says the Online Protection & Enforcement of Digital Trade’ (OPEN) bill would do so in a way that does not "impair the Web as an important engine for economic growth." Alternative O.P.E.N. Bill by Lloyd Doggett (D) from Texas

haha. so much for wiki's blackout. if you do a search and you get a wiki link for it, the page comes up before the blackout message blocks it. while the wiki page is up hit your escape key and the wiki page will stay intact.
sure, you can talk to god, but if you don't listen then what's the use? so, onward through the fog!

The computer game industry has a piracy beating model that doesnt require extensive and restrictive legislation. Valve, through their Steam digital distribution service have beaten piracy for their games, with the simple expedient of providing excellent service - making it as easy to purchase a game as to pirate it. on another note, valve released their intellectual property, in the form of the development tools for their games for free. resulting in a huge modding community and fanbase building significant brand loyalty. Now they are literally printing their own money. contrast this with games companies who have implemeneted restrictive digital rights mechansims that punish only those who purchase the games, e.g. limited installs of a game on the same computer, always online verification while playing, crapware like securom csintalled on your pc that prevents the use of virtual drives etc.

' I don't understand the chortling that there are ways to beat the blackout. What is important is the publicity against the Dictator Legislation in Congress.

As a result of the blackout SOPA, PIPA lose support from lawmakers on Capitol Hill amid blackout Co-sponsors who say they can no longer support their own legislation include Senators Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, Roy Blunt, a Missouri Republican, and Ben Cardin, a Maryland Democrat. Republican Representatives Ben Quayle of Arizona, Lee Terry of Nebraska, and Dennis Ross of Florida also said they would withdraw their backing of the House bill.
