BBC info page on Concordia

On the title page, just below the drawings of the ship's angle of sinking, is a fascinating video, which recaps the travel of the ship, before and after the grounding.

I remain mystified at loss of life, less than 200 yards from shore, with people dying below deck with life jackets on... in a disaster that lasted more than two hours.

The more information that comes to light, the more strange the entire story becomes.

Yes, I think that the only plausible explanation would be some sort of conspiracy of the US government

I am sure that you will keep us updated on that

Did something prompt that reply Ardy? Hmm
I thought the story interesting and wanted to share.

If an apology is necessary, I sincerely do apologize, and I agree that it is interesting from very many perspectives.

My posting was simply intended to point out that it is not uncommon for real world situations to have almost strange and inexplicable peculiarities. Should one be of a mindset to look for conspiracies... it is fairly easy to collect the anomalies and arrange them in to a conspiracy narrative.

how often is the comment "The more information that comes to light, the more strange the entire story becomes." a prelude to an intricately constructed conspiracy narrative/

It interested me because many years ago, I involved myself deeply in the story of the Titanic, reading dozens of written accounts, the entire trial transcript and all of the documents pertaining to the investigation...
A different time, a different situation, but as I watch the story of the Costa Concordia unfold, I can't help but feel a sense of deja vu.

I heard a news report that there is some law in Italy that sets out a fairly large payment payable to any passengers forced to abandon ship in an emergency

If this is true, it would help explain the reluctance of the captain to order an early abandon ship order.... before he was absolutely sure the situation was unrecoverable.

Yeah... understood...
I read a report on Thursday that Costa (Carnival) had offered 30% off on the next cruise. (almost choked... don't know if that was true or not) As of last night the news said $15,000
per passenger, and another report this morning was $20,000+.

As to the lifeboats... In the case of the Titanic, it was 30 minutes.... What Happened.

Can only imagine where this is all headed. Future of Cruises, fuel leakage. A pretty big boat. Has been removed from the Costa Website.

I think one would need to be Deliriosa to take the Deliziosa. · · wink

I think it is just one more indication that human intelligence is much more limited than most people assume.

The lights went out and nobody knew where to go or what to do. I'm surprised more lives weren't lost.
