Well, the following is my little Rant for the day. I posted it in the Ranters' Soapbox. It's something personal to me. I know it really won't hold much meaning to most of the members in RR. But, I figured what the hell. RR is about as good as anyplace to unload a bit of anger.
I happen to see a 24/7 Wall St. article that really grabbed me. I don't know why it should because I've known about the issues stated in the article, but seeing in made me feel sad for my state, where I was born and raised and continue to live in my retirement days.
Texas is tied for California as the state with the worst education attainment in the country -- just 80.7% of residents over 24 have high school diplomas. The state also has the ninth-highest poverty rate in the U.S. and the highest percentage of residents in the country without health insurance, at nearly one in four. Texas has an upward mobility score of just 31% compared to the national average of 34%.
LINK Now let me share with you the Texas State Song's Lyrics.
"Texas, Our Texas"
Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.
(chorus)
Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
(chorus)
Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.
(Chorus)
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
I don't know the Texas that our state song speaks of...not anymore.
Thank you past and present Texas Governors and Legislators for defiling our great state...all in the name of "conservatism".
My special thanks goes out to Rick Perry, who without his radicalism and his determination to be "Supreme Ruler of Texas", our sad state of being would not be near as sad or in such dire straits. Our state would be way the better off if he was never elected in the State of Texas to any seat.
And I want to give honorable mention to George W. Bush for leaving Texas much worse off when he left the Governors Office.
