September is going to be an interesting month in DC...the "real" status on the Iraq troop surge is supposed to be presented to Congress (as opposed to the recent preliminary July report, that was "too soon to make any judgements since the final troops just arrived."), but the administration and Bush's generals are already whining about September and begging for more time.

""In order to do a good assessment, I need at least until November. If I have 45 more days of looking at those trends, I'll be able to make a bit more accurate assessment." said Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, commander of day-to-day operations in Iraq.
Are we going to continue to buy this bullcrap from the administration and let them run out the clock until the 2008 election, when they can turn over the whole stinking Iraq mess to the incoming Democratic administration? This needs to stop and it needs to happen NOW!!! I am so pissed I can hardly type...

Believe me, I do know people over there. And I shutter to think that before it's all over I will know more.

Same here...my best friend's son is slated to go to Iraq in January of 2008. He reports for desert training in two weeks. frown

He would, but he died in 2003... wink Of course, we could use "Psychic Detectives"... laugh

Seriously, he always thought of the moon landing naysayers as a bunch of nutjobs...

I am too far south to have felt this one. we did have a 4.5 quake a couple of months ago, but it wasn't that bad. Of course, the land mass down here is more stable than up around San Francisco and surrounding bay Area. Ihope that ca rick is OK! shocked

I live 2 miles from Red Rock Crossing and it at least 10 times more beautiful than the picture shows. I get goosebumps when I am that close (or at least my hair (head & body) gets electrified.

Additionally, coincidence (I think not also), I have a friend across the street who was a WAAC and then became a WAC, during the time mentioned. She was a Captain and responsible pilot ferrying new and old planes from one spot in US to another - I believe she stayed stateside.

I think they should have the status report in Sept like they said they would. Then they could give us all another update in November. Why wouldn't that work?

Rick, have you ever gone rafting down the American? Great fun and the excitement level depends on how much snow fell the prior winter. This year the river probably is not too ruff, so go ahead, live it up with your "friend." [speaking of which, there is a gay bar here called "Cfrendz", as in, "oh honey, I am just going out to see friends", apparently designed to capture the Republican crowd]

Today I go downtown Los Angeles to witness the grand opening of the first supermarket downtown since the 50's as the area once again sees life abounding.

Ralphs Grocery got its start in downtown Los Angeles during the horse-and-buggy days. But the supermarket abandoned the city center in 1950, a symbol of the district's rapid decline in the wake of the post-World War II suburban boom.

Now, Ralphs is poised to return to the heart of the city, with a 50,000-square-foot market in the shadow of Staples Center and more than a dozen new condo towers. It is scheduled to open Friday.

The supermarket is a central part of a concerted effort by developers and urban planners to create suburban touches in one corner of downtown, an area known as South Park
