No, I've never gone river rafting or kayaking - but I've always wanted to...

This is great news. How are the dreaded supermarket negotiations going down there? We're kinda wondering about them up here 'cuz our contracts are up beginning in September 2007 - in just six weeks.

Hey Rick, can't believe you didn't feel that... anyway, glad all is well...

I'm with Phil on the rafting, I've been down the American twice and it's a blast though one year, due to heavy snow, they canceled our trip at the midpoint. I think a dozen people died within the next week - it was pretty terrifying - but don't let that discourage you - this year was a mild winter and it should be really fun... PLUS you could let your new friend save you... sweet.

There is a myth that San Franciscans never work, the fact is we are done working by the time the rest of the country gets up.

Additionally, coincidence (I think not also), I have a friend across the street who was a WAAC and then became a WAC, during the time mentioned. She was a Captain and responsible pilot ferrying new and old planes from one spot in US to another - I believe she stayed stateside.

It is, indeed, one of the prettiest areas I've ever driven through. None of the pictures I had available did it justice! cool

Rick, have you ever gone rafting down the American? Great fun and the excitement level depends on how much snow fell the prior winter. This year the river probably is not too ruff, so go ahead, live it up with your "friend." [speaking of which, there is a gay bar here called "Cfrendz", as in, "oh honey, I am just going out to see friends", apparently designed to capture the Republican crowd]

Today I go downtown Los Angeles to witness the grand opening of the first supermarket downtown since the 50's as the area once again sees life abounding.

Ralphs Grocery got its start in downtown Los Angeles during the horse-and-buggy days. But the supermarket abandoned the city center in 1950, a symbol of the district's rapid decline in the wake of the post-World War II suburban boom.

Now, Ralphs is poised to return to the heart of the city, with a 50,000-square-foot market in the shadow of Staples Center and more than a dozen new condo towers. It is scheduled to open Friday.

The supermarket is a central part of a concerted effort by developers and urban planners to create suburban touches in one corner of downtown, an area known as South Park
Los Angeles Times

Saw that about the Ralph's Grocery store...tellus all about it when you get back. I saw some very interesting produce there on display, too! cool

One of my sons works for Vons/Safeway Markets. He says that the rank and file will most likely vote for the latest package. I am very glad the strike was averted.{Whew!!!} smile
