Surely the Senator from Texas can come up with a better reason for voting down a campaign fund transparency bill. Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) issued this statement following her vote on the DISCLOSE Act:
"The Senate has now voted on this measure three times," said Sen. Hutchison. "With 23 million Americans struggling for work and unemployment over 8 percent for 41 straight months, we should be focused on job creation and boosting our weak economy." Could disclosure be used as a political tool to damage opposing political opponents or to undermine the political process? As you all probably are aware, the Senate Republicans voted down the Disclose Act yesterday...and I think again today, which is supposedly a "new campaign transparency law". A second vote was cast because of some technicality. ????? Was it or is it really a bill that would truly mandate exposing contributors? But according to Sen. McConnell... [b]Suppression of Speech and Harassment if Donors Disclosed - Huff Post[/color][/b]]The bill was not expected to beat back the Republican filibuster, which was led by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). McConnell, called the "Darth Vader of campaign finance reform" in the past, recently made news by giving a series of speeches declaring that campaign finance disclosure amounted to nothing short of harassment and a suppression of speech. In light of the Citizen's United case - according to the Conservative Justices in the Supreme Court - McConnell could be declared right on his position and apparently other Republican membersin the Senate...and probably those in the House. Gosh! Maybe I'm being Unamerican because I believe that transparency in government is a good thing. Now, admittedly, I've never witnessed transparency in government during my lifetime. But, hey...who knows? American politics is pretty much a mirror copy of the America's civil court system (and in some cases criminal court). You know...whoever has the most money and lies the best - WINS!

In a Free country of Free Individuals, no one would have the right to know anything about an Individual's Property and how he chooses to use it, administer it, profit from it or buy with it. Interesting that three votes on the Disclose bill are too many but 33 on repealing ACA are not.
Ahhh, Republican math, it is such a fluid subject.

Maybe KBH should be saying that to Republicans that keep trying to repeal the AHCA.

i think kbh is simply re-iterating the democratic mantra of work on jobs. Note in her tweet she did not comment on the bill itself as mcconell did.

i think i referred to this in previous post ... after just a few votes dems asked about jobs (and of course continued) ... only after 3 did she comment ... it is obvious both are correct

Weird, I would remind that, when the dems had the majority, they also failed to pass disclosure - same with the senate filibuster rule.

having a majority does not imply any bill would pass
once the minority blocks business cloture is required and with the close difference in the number of the majority, debate may never end, thus requiring the nuclear option or reconciliation
i believe in modern times that the speaker of the senate prefers to conduct business rather than tie the calender up with nonsense
ergo neither could get past senate
i can only think reid thought he had enough votes to pass it or it was a "political" effort, simply portraying the republican/conservatives as the evil ones
