The only thing that can stop what you describe is for the next generations to be fully prepared academically for the fall from freedom. C.S. I do not mean fancy universtities but a cold hard look at what our founders described and R.S. discusses. Cutting through the American apathy must be done or we will end up like every other nation on the planet waiting for permission to accomplish anything.
If Americans cannot teach their own children from birth about the values of freedoms and how to keep them from Big Daddy, we will lose what Jefferson, Madison and the others designed for us. It takes a little work to go back and read their words. It is a great thing to share with our children and grandchildren.
I cannot stress enough the value of dining room table lessons shared with all members of the family. Even if it just one or children with the Mother, it can be taught but only if freedom has value. Instilling critical thinking when the kids are small could easily save the lives of those children especially when living on the San Andreas Fault. We spent part of our dinner hour discussing "what if" because not all of us were always home if a disaster struck. Living on top of the Santa Monica Mountains means earthquakes, floods, forest fires and the ability to evacuate, with the animals, essential. It's called the surival of the fittest. This is the kind of thing that matters not, who or what is in the White House. We learned the survival skills under LBJ, Nixon, Ford and Carter. We learned that the Federal Government had no interest or influence how or even if we survived. Reagan was elected during my yountest's leaving the nest for college. He was the last of my GOP votes.
My son is now in the Hollywood business of special effects and he did it without any influence of mine or anyone in my family. He simply had a good artistic flare for space ships. Jack Webb called him after seeing some of his work.
My daughter works for the U.S. Senate as a litigator but is a firm Libertarian. My older girl is a physical therapist and relies on government funds so she is a Democrat. The only Republican in the family is my son. None of us had an agenda for change at least not until Bush was elected. The point is that they all know what is wrong and are all searching for a better stand for leadership and freedom. They all see the solution in different parties. I taught them to think, not how to vote.
There is no perfect political solution as long as the voters demand Big Daddy tell them "they are doing a good job."
