No, sometimes "snuffed" isn't dramatic enough.
Let's take a look at a recent Romney quote:
"... people of this country are looking for someone who can get the country growing again with more jobs and more take-home pay, and I think they realize this president had four years to do that. … He got every piece of legislation he wanted passed, and it didn't work. I think they want someone who has a different record, and I do."

But back to topic...
Whether government intended it or not, when things fell apart for me, Uncle Sam was there and helped me get back on my feet. There have been better governments than this one, regarding the interests of the citizens, and there have been worse. But my take on government in general is that it always has and always will put the interests of the wealthiest citizens first.
