I've heard that uttered twice, by the same left-leaning pundit: John Kenneth Galbraith. The first was after the landslide defeat of Goldwater by Johnson in 1964; the second was less than a decade later, as Nixon boarded the helicopter taking him to his self-created disgrace.

Consequently, I tend to view with considerable skepticism such sweeping political claims. :/

Such sweeping political claims are laid waste these days by chanting the phrase "Nine-eleven!" five or six times in rapid succession and then showing a montage of emotional clips, followed by bleating sheeple who intone phrases like "Goin against the President just ain't right!"

Now add the threat of another impending attack and BLAMMO!, instant Republican majority.
Strangely enough none of this has ANYTHING to do with CONSERVATISM, and so the point is made, conservatism DID DIE many years ago and it WAS with the defeat of Goldwater.
Republicans today are NOT "conservative" by and large...it's just that simple.
