Is it customary to give someone a Bible inscribed with "In Memory Of (blank)while they're still alive?

Joe It depends on what the giver has in mind, Joe.;-) Yours, Issodhos

Joe,
My husband's beloved Grandfather died in 1985. That year for Christmas his Grandmother presented all the grandchildren with a Bible "In memory of (grandfather's name)".

Yes, Bell, but the beloved grandfather was deceased before the Bibles were presented, yes?
The question here is more of "In memory of Millie, on the occasion of her marriage." The memorialized is still among us - am I reading you right, Joe?
I believe "in honor of" might be better wording.

Mellow Julia,
Yes, the memorialized is still among us.

I agree with Julia. If the memorialized is still alive, then "In honor of" would be better wording.
