I am certain you are right about this. I get my emotions from music. I love Emerson Lake and Palmer because one can sing and dance to it. I tend to want to belch with the grateful dead.
Years ago I was invited to Cal State Northridge to hear the premier of a tone poem composed by Pendereki called Hiroshima. I was not in Japan at the end of WW2 but I would bet the nuking of this city left a better sound. Sandy, your taste in music is clearly not lacking in any way, shape or form. As for Penderecki, you're right. Some think he was a little 'off' in the head when writing this music, or perhaps had burned some part of his mind away contemplating the power of the two atomic bombs that decimated Japan. One thing is sure. The use of any words connoting poetry in connection with Penderecki is a felony sized oxymoron -- even worse than television writer.

I loved this song! And it was the theme for my 8th grade graduation dance. Eight grade = 13 years old. Knights in White Satin released 1967. 1967 - 13 = 1954 2012 - 1954 = 58 You must be off by at least a decade or more. After all, Scout isn't a day over 45, right? Am I right? Of course, I have similar memories of the song, so I could just be acting in my own self interest...

Status update: All is healing very well, may be getting some food next week, lose a few tubes, and going home Sunday.

You must be off by at least a decade or more. After all, Scout isn't a day over 45, right? No, that would be me (b. 22.05.68) Scout and I weren't born in the same decade. I've always viewed her as my older sister.

I had been having trouble swallowing so I went for an endoscopy (camera down my throat). During the procedure the camera caught a growth in my throat and cut off my air supply, bringing me to within a minute or two of death.
Normally there is no surgeon at this out patient facility but fortunately there were two at this time. they immediately opened my trachea so I could start breathing and they rushed me to the nearest hospital (fortunately for me it is Cedars Sinai one of the leading hospitals.
I awoke in ICU and stayed there until they removed the growth (benign) 10 days later. Since then it has been a slow process of recovery. Things are going very well and I go home Sunday.
next is the slow introduction of food in addition to the liquid being put into my stomach through a tube. (Sorry if this is too graphic).
Worst experience of my life by far, but also have a different relationship to life, people and "reality" -- which continues to unfold to me as I re-enter the world.

OMG!!! That's horrible!!
Phil, I'm so happy the surgeons were around when they were.
Your experience makes my brain surgery operation this past June an easy-peasy walk in the park.

Phil, hell of a way to lose a few pounds! I hope that you're well and in your favorite restaurant enjoying your favorite meal before too much longer. Joe

Harrowing experience for sure. As the Brits say: Keep calm and carry on!
