...there is a greater appreciation of nature to the north in large part because nature down this way isn't trees but sage brush and other not so glamorous plant life.
...
... did we do it well? Decidedly not. But that was then and now we are doing what we can to rectify and correct some of those excesses. Thank you for your honest assessment, Phil. It is truly appreciated. ,

Thank you for your honest assessment, Phil. It is truly appreciated. , Oh I see, so you DO thank us for saving you from the exodus of all those nasty El-Lay people. You're welcome, Rick. But we still might move up there anyway, seeing as how you've decided it's time to cut the state in half. We want to be your neighbors! And we're going to make your neighborhood remind us of home!

To paraphrase a non-lawyer type here at Reader Rant: You're supposing facts not in evidence. You can't go where there is no housing - and if you do come - you'll pay a nice price. The meme in El Lay is "they come here for the weather." Well have at it. Oh wait you did: a plethora of tract housing and urban sprawl. Thank you for your honest assessment, Phil. It is truly appreciated. , Oh I see, so you DO thank us for saving you from the exodus of all those nasty El-Lay people. I was actually applauding Phil for his honest aesthetic descriptors of El Lay/SoCal.

We want to be your neighbors! And we're going to make your neighborhood remind us of home! Cars on blocks on the front yard lawn and security bars on doors and windows of homes?

Sort of related Largest metropolitan areas Los Angeles County population nears 10 million I had not realized how small the population of the SF area actually is. When my family moved to LA there were fewer than 3 million here.

Wow-nearly 19M in Greater NY and 12+M in the LA area. That’s a lotta peepel. What amazes me about that is the infrastructure needed to keep everything moving and people living. I have many times wondered about the water supply and sewage disposal of NYC. Astounding-and I ain’t kidding.
I think about the sewage in NYC. How in the hell is that managed? Hopefully better than pure bribes allow.
This immediate neck around 300k and Corvallis, a small town that I dearly love, about 60k. I prefer the places where there are minimal humans. Although I am a social being.
To each his own.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Ken, the nice part about big metro areas, at least the LA metro, is that I live in a small town where I know my elected officials, store owners, etc. In a way it is the best of both worlds.

It also appears that contrary to my expectation, Los Angeles is more densely populated than New York (comparing urbanized areas and populations)

I had not realized how small the population of the SF area actually is. Yup, you guys are nearly 4x larger in population and 3.25x larger in square miles.
