Lessee... 15 seconds on the internet... 2500.rounds of high-end .22 mini-mags, $150.00 or 6¢/round. I'd say that's "shortage" alright! It's not a lack of ammo, it is a distribution issue in certain limited locales. Yeah, the local bait&tackle shop may be short, but I was just at a gun show last week, and I didn't find any caliber I couldn't find ammo for - even some pretty exotic ones.
