Gun shops are running low on ammunition from a run by customers fearful of potential gun-control legislation, according to gun retailers and customers.
Prices have more than doubled over past year in some shops, retailers are putting limits on the amount a customer can buy, and some common types of ammunition, such as .22-caliber long rifle shells, are hard to get. I heard rumors earlier that the shelves were bare at the local gun shops, so I went down to the local Co-op to see for myself. Yes indeed, the shelves were bare of almost all ammunition. Even reloading supplies, from bullets, casings, to powder (two 1 pound cans, left) were gone. What is amazing to me is that the ubiquitous .22 rimfire has almost disappeared. I think Democrats should be given a percentage of all sales exceeding the annual average as reward for their stellar efforts at threatening gun owners into panick-buying guns and ammo. Best salespersons the gun and ammo industry has ever had. One of the stupidest and most ineffectual ideas is the one about requiring background checks on ammo purchases or limits on amounts purchased. :-) It should be interesting to see how many Dems make it through the mid-terms. Misleading topic name: There is PLENTY of ammo out there. There is just a run of panic buyers snapping it all up.
I have not heard about any Democratic Congressmen, Governers, State Assemblymen, etc. proposing restrictions on normal retail ammo sales. I have heard about nearly every rightwingnut on the radio or Fox News suggesting it. So if you want to complement anybody for driving ammo sales through the roof, I think you need to lay that on the folks who use fear to drive the lemmings on the right over the proverbial cliff.
Good job, guys! And the gun shop owners and ammo manufacturers all thank you very much!

One of the stupidest and most ineffectual ideas is the one about requiring background checks on ammo purchases or limits on amounts purchased wow ... i guess had you read your own citation you would have known no one but right wing nuts have even talked about it and then you concluded Democrats are at fault??? The article almost made me jump into the car and run down to my local gun store, Pig Supply, and buy all the zombie rounds i could in fear that not only Democrats are out to get me but maybe zombies are dead and coming to get me ... fear ... what a motivator Let's see ... I need 100k rounds to protect me from the statistically negligent sole intruder in my home or car ... or perhaps I need all those rounds to say what about a tyrannical government? am I going to assault a federal building with .22 rimfires ... what exactly am I going to do? just keep buying rounds as long as the fear mongers continue to feed on my paranoia living in fear :: musical group name, title of a book, a painting, a song, mantra of the extremist right wing

Although I expected no less from the title of the thread, I have seen no local shortage, other than artificially created, temporary ones (like the ones for 30-round AR magazines, where they were kept in the warehouse to keep the store shelves empty - I watched it happen, shipping the store supplies back to the warehouse, but readily available online). Don't think this is anything other than mercantile propaganda from the manufacturers and their lobbyists. Remember, these are low-information purchasers who listen to the likes of Limbaugh - himself a recipient of the lobby's largesse.
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

It's the reason why right-wing media exists: To scare the crap of their audience and make bank while doing so.

My 50 cals are getting harder and harder to find...along with ammo for my ground to air missiles. But .22's are abundant at local sporting good stores. So are .357's. But I admit, the price has gone up a bit.

LINK Yours, Issodhos so disingenuous of you, iss. surely someone as intelligent as yourself understands that the paranoia and fear involved preclude anything the democrats could possibly do to bolster guns sales. all it really takes is a few well placed words from the likes of the nra and fox news to get these folks, well up in arms.
sure, you can talk to god, but if you don't listen then what's the use? so, onward through the fog!

Lessee... 15 seconds on the internet... 2500.rounds of high-end .22 mini-mags, $150.00 or 6ยข/round. I'd say that's "shortage" alright! It's not a lack of ammo, it is a distribution issue in certain limited locales. Yeah, the local bait&tackle shop may be short, but I was just at a gun show last week, and I didn't find any caliber I couldn't find ammo for - even some pretty exotic ones.

50 cals are getting harder ... ground to air missiles at least you have made a start .... i also recommend surface to surface missiles and since your are in austin no torpedoes are necessary for a full anti-tyrannical governmentista arsenal ... i have a friend who has a working tank ... he is always interested in making a buck if you are interested
