When I shoot at the range, I generally buy a "brick" of whatever ammunition I am going to use on the range. I expend it there and then, but keep a box of 50-100 rounds available for the weapon at home (I use different rounds, so I usually have at least two kinds, ball and hollowpoint). I rotate that stock by shooting up what is at home, then replentishing the box at home from what I bought for the range. I do not, however, stockpile ammunition at home, so I would never have 1000 rounds of anything for more than a day or two. This shortage is quite typical of such shortages - it is temporary, and limited (usually geographically). It is also self-perpetuating. Manufacturers, however, report a significant increase in production. Hornaday;
The Great Ammo Shortage Of 2013 Continues:
Quote
Gun manufacturers are working nearly around the clock to keep up with demand. The number of guns and ammo made this year is more than was made in 2012, Guns.com notes. The amount of ammunition and guns produced in 2012 was also reportedly more than made in the previous year.
Update on Firearm Production and Ammo Availability

All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

You can buy the hell out of 7mm and 7.62 every time I check Cabela's. You'd be lucky to find .380, .38 SPL and .45 ACP. And if you did you'd be limited to one brick each. You won't find much of anything else.

Pretty much the same guys show up every morning, the Cabela guy told me, and go straight to the gun area and purchase their limit of whatever is in stock. Everyday, same bastards.

Stock will eventually become available and many of those bastards will be sitting on loads of ammo they can't sell.

To the point, all you can purchase here for the time being is one brick, NW, IF you can find it.

Sounds like the Free Market is working more or less as it should: some good capitalists are attempting to position themselves avantageously so as to maximize their return on investment. Now, when the government does ban all weapons and ammunition - as they surely will - these guys will be set both economically and from a personal protection viewpoint.

Indeed, they'll be selling ammunition to criminals because those will be the only people who have guns.

California lawmakers consider regulating, taxing ammunition

Quote
Gun control advocates in Sacramento are putting a new twist on an old NRA slogan: "Guns don't kill people -- bullets kill people."

Democratic lawmakers are pushing like never before to regulate or tax ammunition sales. They say the logic is simple: A firearm is nothing but an expensive paperweight without ammunition.

"We regulated gun sales because of our concern about safety, (so) by logical extension we should do so with bullets," said state Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, whose AB48 will be heard Tuesday by the Assembly Public Safety Committee.

Gun-rights advocates are preparing a counter-offensive, arguing that ammunition-control bills are a not-so-back-door assault on the Second Amendment.

"It's a way to red-tape the right to bear arms to death," said Chuck Michel, the California Rifle and Pistol Association's attorney, promising to sue if any such bills pass. "It's all part of a campaign of shame, the fight to make it as difficult as possible for law-abiding citizens to make the choice to have a firearm for self-defense."

so your response to the question of what constitutes a "normal" ammo sale is "no background check" and you somehow think that is an answer ... no wonder people have problems understanding your comments ... almost like using a word wheel and simply juxtaposing the random selections ...

Not to worry - California will lead the way on this issue and the rest of the country will follow - as usual. smile
