having met him several times, I picked the most friendly and least mean and inaccurate descriptors that applied.

i dunno bry, how many times have you spent time with him and get to hear his self description? At least I did not call him the Fat *astard, which is popular, given his standing up to an illegal white house by opening the gate and offering to drive.

I have never met Rep. Hastert. I have met many other politicians many of them I like as much as you like Hastert but I don't insult them no matter how much they deserve it. I try not to insult anybody. I don't succeed but I try.

If ugliness is to be a disqualification for political office maybe we should elect Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan? How about Brad Pitt or George Clooney?

facial ugliness has nothing to do with the true ugliness of his soul, or lack thereof. Given the programs he promoted, the refusal to deal even-handedly with the minority party, being a lapdog for a law-breaking, war-mongering, and war-crimes, torturing, treaty breaking grouip of thugs, criminals, and murderers and thieves, I thought I did rather well in spinning what would be a more accurate and more nasty description.

ReaderRant is one of the oldest discussion boards on the web, and one we think is unique. We are non-partisan and emphasize collegial discussion of the events and issues of the day. We welcome all political persuasions, conservatives, liberals, moderates, libertarians, or anything in between. All points of view are welcome with the understanding that everyone treats each other, and their opinions, with dignity and respect. Flaming and cheap shots are not allowed on this board. We do not tolerate personal attacks on members. We also insist the elected officials be referred to by name, not by nickname or insult. This board exists to discuss issues, not attack people. Threats are off limits, either on the public board or via Private Messaging.
A reminder. Please edit accordingly.

The fact that this is a policy is something that obviously was well thought out and I am impressed. I like that while this is obviously most that post are of liberal thought that discussion is open to all.

Steve,

My tomatoes are growing but just before they are ready to pick, a bird gets to them before me. Giant hunks are taken away.

We had about three seconds of rain tonight.

About the tropical storm: Actually I was referring to what was Erin rather than Dean. Erin came ashore near Houston but then, I guess, disappeared. Most tropical storm systems work their way east and I was hoping Erin would bring us some rain. Dean looks as if he could become a monster storm. We need rain badly but not at the expense of damage.

Florida?

I can't imagine anyone choosing to go to Florida in August but since a lot of people do, I am certainly in the minority. Bob, I hope you have a great trip.
