Our esteemed colleague from Minnesota was just pointing out earlier today that there is a fundamental difference between the light-hearted, jesting kind of name-calling that is frequently heard and seen in the right-wing media and the vicious, mean-spirited kind of name-calling that comes from the left. I recall from yesterday's RT that the esteemed Senator made an example of the good Pastor from Ill-In-Noise, stating that his name-calling "typifies" the hate-filled left.

Clearly, in all the time that I have been reading the Pastor's scribblings, it had never occurred to me to call him down for what seemed acceptable license, considering his experience and his position vis-a-vis the clergy. Indeed, it seems not to have occurred to anyone here, including our ever vigilant and fair-minded Moderators and Administrators, to utter a word of chastisement for his daily infractions.

I should be grateful, I am sure, that my friend from Chi-town will be imposed upon to adhere to the standards of civility that presumably govern this board. They are, after all, standards that I strive to meet myself. I expect I should express my gratitude to the good Senator from Minnesota for his moderating influence. I'll wait for those feelings of gratitude, to see if they come.

Perhaps we leftists, in our clumsy attempts at humor, just have no idea how mean-spirited we come across to our sensitive and gentle colleagues across the ideological divide. How can we laugh at a person being described as "fat" and yet fail to find the humor in "Hitlary" or "Barack Osama"? It's a puzzle. I'll sit with it a while. Maybe it will come to me.

Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love,
to respect and be kind to one another,
so that we may grow with peace in mind.
