Funny, isn't it, that Rand Paul hails from the "Commonwealth" of KY, Rick Santorum from the "Commonwealth" of Pennsylvania, and Eric Cantor from the "Commonwealth" of Virginia? I can't think of three individuals less devoted to the "common" good; shared sacrifice; fair opportunity, etc. Indeed.

Shame in you rick for making me laugh. I have given myself the lash and I shall, the future, behave myself.
And loggy--wash your mouth out with soap--please. I fear I have missed the play, can I have the recap, please?

It seems some in this discussion have chosen to forget the guidelines of ReaderRant, particularly when it comes to references to elected officials, both present and past.
One thought an insult about the district Darrel Issa recommended was appropriate. It was not and was deleted. Another thought former Congressman Ron Paul was fair game because he no longer holds office. Wrong again. Sorry Doug. For the record, I didn't "CHOOSE to forget". I forgot, period, I just plumb forgot. Yeah yeah, ignorance of the rules is no excuse, they're clear and they're easily accessible. My bad, I chose not to recheck them. It wasn't intentional. I'm just ignorant, but I'll try to improve in the future

As I was considering violation of our rules, it occurred to me how difficult it sometimes is to remember that some of these yoyos were actually elected. Then I considered that they "represent" a constituency, and that made me think abiut what kind of irresponsible voters would send the likes of Louie Gohmert and Michelle Bachmann to Congress - and even multiple times! Really, how can one justify that level of disregard of the public good? (I also recognize that in many cases they aren't truly "elected" - as the districting process and election rigging efforts result in the installation of party apparatchiks who really don't represent their "Districts", but are just part of an unrepresentative voting bloc.) Will this pendulum ever swing? Are we destined to be saddled with the likes of these "Special" school dropouts indefinitely? How can someone who can't complete a comprehensible sentence, or reason their way through a second-grade reader get elected ro Congress? If this is "The People's House," who are these "people" that put them there?
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.
Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

By the way, 'destroying America' starts by destroying the institutions of America - which means, the government. Isn't government supposed to represent the collective will of the people? And if one is attacking the collective will of the people, isn't one really attacking the people? Gramsci would be amused by the quaint belief that government is America. How much easier then to use government to undermine and co-opt the institutions and cultures of civil society, then using them as a base for facilitating normative constructs so dear to the authoritarian ideal.
