Mind Children, Hans Moravec. He was about a decade early with his prediction but it will give you a full sense of what is nearly upon us.

Thanks for the recommendation. Appears Morovec was prophetic. Looks like a brave new world is upon us. I feel sorry for the next generation.

The digital revolution has thus far rewarded investors and the highest-skilled and most creative workers, and many of the jobs that have been lost to automation have not been replaced by anything else. I fear for the automation industry - who will buy their products when the market has evaporated due to insufficient well-paying jobs to enable people to buy stuff? They will have to invent consumer robots, I guess.

There will be, there are consumer robots
Of course there are robot vacuums, and some clever toys But we are just starting to see robotics in cars. Self parking cars, self stopping cars, and inevitably self driving cars. Heck we have dish washers, washing macines and bread makers that are already sort of specialized robots.
As with much new tech, it will be expensive and limited at first. But then will become pervasive in ways we cannot now imagine as other than fantasy.
Which jobs remain and how much they are paid is a separate question

Nearly every major car manufacturer now has a self-drive prototype car. I can't wait until they become available. The drive to Tahoe will be easy, peasy - I can nap the whole way! ,

You may be hitchhiking to my place in Tahoe (yes, I'm going to win the HGTV dream home) after a Lunchbot takes your job as a lunch lady...

Assuming Botmobiles will even pick up hitch hikers.

I don't produce lunches, I'm no 'lunch lady.' I do however, produce numbers which tells 'the ladies' what quantity to make - among 22 other duties. (Not that I've counted! I have! )

Assuming Botmobiles will even pick up hitch hikers. You've seen too many 70s porn. No one hitch hikes anymore.
