One of the most reprehensible domestic terrorists in U.S. history has died. Do not mourn the passing of Fred Phelps. But a question: how many are up for a trip to Westboro to picket his funeral??

My first reaction is to dance a jig of pure joy but that is quickly tempered by the realization that the death or depature of a hate group leader seldom means the death of the hatred itself.
Nope...sadly the beatings will continue "until morale improves", and the Westboro Baptist Church has a continuing need to improve the morale of its members...with money from the lawsuits it files against whoever represents the deep pockets that come into play whenever a WBC member feels their "civil rights" have been denied. Shirley, Margie, Steve Drain and the rest of the congregation still need to eat, and this is their meal ticket. Fred's death simply means one less mouth for them to feed.
If anything, we can expect even more protests from this sleazy law firm disguised as a church.
I draw comfort from the fact that people like Phelps have perhaps done the most to advance the cause of equality, for everyone both gay and straight.

Turns out, turnabout is not fair play: No funeral for anti-gay preacher CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Fred Phelps, the virulently anti-gay preacher who died late Wednesday, was founding pastor of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., which says it has held protests at more than 53,000 events, including military funerals. Phelps said he would "love it" if his own funeral drew protests, but that's not likely to happen. Phelps' daughter told CNN that Westboro will not hold a funeral because "We do not worship the dead." Yeah, riiight. Chicken!
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.
Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich
