How completely odd. We have true believers (Bushites) and the folks against the war, no matter what. Everybody is arguing, I think, about whether we should get out or not. Now, lets see, the military has announced that there is no way our military can sustain the surge, the Iraqi politicians have efficiently looted as much as they can building palaces outside of that benighted country and its generally agreed that the country itself is in the midst of a civil war. The Iraqi military is not reliable and the iraqi police are completely out of control. Oh - their legislature is on vacation too! Lets also add that we seem to be fighting, Sheiites, Suuni, Insurgents, Terrorists, Iranians, Syrians, and volunteer American haters from just about every country in the world. Oh - almost forgot, all those are not just fighting us but each other!
Lets add that in the years since we have been there we have yet to even get the oil flowing at embargo levels (even though it was the FIRST thing we tried to do (whilst ignoring ammunition dumps, etc), the potable water situation is desperate and electricity production is reaching joke proportions. To reach this milestone of 'success' we have spent, literally, hundreds of billions of dollars. On top of that we have blown through most of those generals so self interested that they were willing to serve (those with an ounce of integrity were either fired or 'retired'). Bush has put the navy in charge of a land war for, I guess, a lack of remaining generals. Then we come to general Petraeus, the 'learned' general. He will, I am sure, do exactly as all the other Bush generals have done - Bob and weave and lie his head off, take the heat, and retire (he did, however, get a nice bump in pay grade to take the job in the first place).
Folks! There is little to argue about here! Winning? Win what? We have worked our magic here. We have looted the banks (contractors got much of that), tried to steal the oil (failed), spent billions failing to rebuild, killed thousands of civilians (men, women and children), destroyed their infrastructure and created a government incapable of doing little more than feathering personal nests. Oh - we have also abandoned most of those who actually supported us so that they could either flee to absolute destitution or get slaughtered themselves. This whole thing was based on simple greed, run with world shaking incompetence, and still there those who talk about 'winning' - what in the HELL are they talking about? What we are witnessing, right now, is the beginning of a pull out. We no longer have the resources to continue! We have shot our wad, our military is in literal shambles, the troops are tired, and starting to speak out in larger and larger numbers, desertions are up (it just goes on and on). As far as I can tell the only reason we are still there is because there may still be a few crumbs left to steal. But, make no mistake - we ARE on our way out of there.
I guess the only real question is whether our self serving politicians will get out before, or after, the election next year. That decision will be made by deciding which time would be best to insure their continued snouting at the public trough. The Iraq war was started based on a whim of a president backed by a compliant, not quite awake, congress, pure and simple. He heard the voices in his head and found them good. He is still hearing those voices and we are reaping the rewards of his Divine Intervention. How does it go? Oh - "Praise the Lord, pass the ammunition, and we will ALL be free!" (catchy tune!)
