and hence build the army needed for our adventures.
What if somehow that proves to be our purpose? That males should kill each other after reproducing in order to reduce the sperm donor numbers down to “ the chosen“
In the past that is always what has happened. Are “we” now so enlightened that we can somehow bypass that genetic legacy?

NWP, I like your thinking about the GI Bill, but have a problem with it being a way to continue the US being militarily adventurous. .... The same benefits could be extended to all who participate in the tax system. I believe the net economic effect would be positive and pay for itself over time.
I did not find the original article that presented this idea, Phil, but may have come up with something even better: A GI Bill For Everybody
Quote
The dynamics set in motion by the GI Bill had broad, positive ramifications for the country as a whole, extending far beyond the direct beneficiaries. Not only did the latter benefit from increased income, occupational and employment opportunities, and personal growth and enrichment; these benefits extended intergenerationally, making for greater opportunities for their children and families, which contributed to a general expansion in college enrollments through the 1970s, far outstripping population growth. Enrollments increased by nearly 21 percent between 1950-1960 and nearly 167 percent between 1960-1970. In 1950, for example, 1.7 percent of the total U.S. population were enrolled in colleges and universities; by 1975, the figure had risen steadily to 5.2 percent. This growth also fueled a dramatic expansion of colleges and universities. Bulging enrollments led to substantial enlargement of physical plant and capacities at existing institutions. Increased demand for higher education also prompted creation of new institutions, many of them public campuses in urban and under-served rural areas that brought higher education physically within reach of new segments of society. The Bureau of the Census counted 1,708 institutions of higher education in 1940 and 1,959 in 1960; by 1981, the number had risen to more than 3,200. All this expansion in turn stimulated construction and other employment opportunities, ranging from faculties and staff to support services and the commercial sector. It also dramatically democratized college and university life and broadened and deepened the intellectual life of campuses and academic disciplines. Michael J. Bennett writes movingly of the GI Bill's democratizing cultural and intellectual effects in When Dreams Came True: The GI Bill and the Making of Modern America.
I highly commend the reading the entire article. Some other articles I have come across: The G.I. Bill, 70 years later
There’s a way for everyone to get a free college education, however. The government could take the $69 billion it already spends to subsidize the cost of a college education through grants, tax breaks, and work-study funding and simply cover the $63 billion tuition spent at public colleges. This would mean anyone could avail themselves of a free college degree and it would also likely incentivize private universities to lower their prices in order to compete.
Indeed, I'm so taken with the topic, I think I'll start a new thread on it to develop it further.
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.
Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

Will look forward to that. In particular, would like to see thoughts on the military as a risk/reward profession. In particular, military service as a "sacred calling".
I have been looking at some of the ripples and echoes of the GI Bill. Before WWII fewer than 10% of high school graduates went on to college. Now 34% continue on (a figure that would be higher if it weren't so expensive). How many of our parent's parents went to college? Before 1940 fewer than half of Americans owned their own homes. Today 67% of houses are owner-occupied, and that's in a population three times as large. The baby boom of the 50s and 60s echoed in a mini-boom of the 80s and 90s.
The GI Bill made many things possible, and changed expectations. How many of our children expect to go to college? How many think they'll buy their own home? How many appliances are taken for granted? Before WWII most homes didn't have garages, now how many don't? Every time I look, I find another connection.
My dad went to college(San Jose State University, Class of 1958, in electrical engineering)-and on the GI Bill. That's also how he bought his first home.My mother did attend some college classes, but never got her degree. My sisters and I all went to college, and so did all of my children. My husband and his brother were the first in their family to get college degrees.

Are none of you mental masturbators concerned the least with FOX? I don’t mean rick. He is aware of the outrage.
Seriously. This is a total brainwashing organization in plain sight. And they are getting worse. If no one gives a shitt well hey? I suppose I shouldn't either.
But they are dangerous, loud, monied, and in ones face. The face of those who might not know better. And then can cause all kids of untoward directions. And they are trying to do just that.
White "good American jihad". Ignore them at your peril.

Welp, the T-Baggers and Faux News got bitch-slapped in Mississippi tonight.
Let’s hope that stands Rick. This is nasty serious shitt.
Hannity just had the old sidewinder Dick Cheney on his program. The snide king Hannity kind of sort of (please don't give me a direct answer Dick) asked Cheney some cotton ball questions then proceeded to answer them to Hannity's liking. Cheney of course sort of kind of wondered………………………………………
how much FOX was paying him to burn whatever sheds were left of his soulless and vacuous balloon.
Hannity of course said---Cha Ching!!!!

I get into the snake pit every evening at Greta's. There is no changing minds, their minds are well made-up. Just pointing out FACTS to them drives them crazy. They hate facts but love the hyperbole that the voices in their head tells them to pull out of their arse and type it as if it were true.
