Can any of the rabid anti-Bush people make that statement?
I am not rabid anti-Bush. I am just angry at the thousands of lives that have been lost, and $ hundreds of billions wasted because of his arrogant incompetance, and the Party Loyalists who continue to pretend Bush is the greatest president since Lincoln.

As to Bush appointees I liked, I agree it is difficult, since virtually all of the Bush appointees had to pass the Bush-Loyalty litmus test, with no discernable competence necessary.

However I did like Polin Powell. He was one of the few people who, had he shown any political courage, could have averted today's debacle in iraq.

Paul O'Niell was also very good, which is likely why he was fired.

I even thought that George W. Bush himself perfored well in supporting America after the September 11 attacks and helping us get over the shock.

Clinton I did not automatically dislike whoever he appointed to any position.
Your turn now. Start naming names.

I can't answer for "rabid anti-Bush people" since I am not one of them. However I can suggest a major difference between Clinton and Bush that might explain why you supported some Clinton appointees but I would not support any Bush appointee. When Clinton set about making a major appointment, he consulted with Congress. He consulted with both Dem's and Republicans in Congress. He demonstrated reasonably good judgment in most cases and enjoyed bipartisan and public support as a result.

Mr. Bush, on the other hand, consults only with the partisan sycophants he has surrounded himself with. He has demonstrated, both in his private and his public life, woefully poor judgment. His major decisions have consistently been extremely costly in both money and human misery.

The Gonzales saga is an apt example of his poor judgment, poor choice of friends and advisors, and the resulting cost in human misery.

BTW I was meaning to ask you. Do you think Gonzales committed perjury in his Congressional testimony, or do you think he just made a lot of mistakes? Or, would you consider perjury to be merely a mistake? Unless it happens to be Martha Stewart who is perjuring?

Whispers abound that the replacement will be Chertoff.
I can see why the Bush Administration would want him in the job, he has an amply demonstrated record of incompetence at Homeland Security upon which he can build.

As a pre-emptive note:

I have pointed out, correctly, in the past that the Democrats in Congress have been unable to make any significant changes due to the near 100% loyalty that Congressional Republicans continue (and will continue) to show toward George W. Bush, despite the harm it is inflicting on their country.

Now, however, Democrats cannot claim that excuse. They do not need a single vote from Senate Republicans to prevent another Loyal Bushie getting into the job.

We know right now that, no matter who President Bush nominates, 100% of Republcan will support him or her. They will even back Harriet Meiers, were Bush to so decide.

Of course "Loyal Bushie" Joe Lieberman will support whomever Bush nominates.

However Democrats need only forty votes to prevent that. And, were they to cave, as they have in the past, then I cannot provide any alibi, other than the Democrats in the Senate are too weak to confront an incompetent, vitriolic White House that appears bent on destroying the country it nominally serves.

If the Democrats cave, than all my excuses of the past will crumble and I will have to admit that others' claims of weakness and betrayal are correct.

Good news!! The AG can't be a "recess appointment" - it must be a Senate confirmation! [Linked Image from i48.photobucket.com] , [Linked Image from i48.photobucket.com]
