I have been a Lakewoodian, of the Washingtonian variety, since my uncle (Sam) brought me out in 1986. I do, however, have a son in Portland, so I spend some time "commuting" down that way. Lately that commute has involved longer and longer trips about and beyond. We've put about 12,000 miles on "Harvey" since November, and spend about 10 days a month on the road. Life is good. Our mid-June foray into our neighborhood to the North was aborted, however, by an unfortunate attack of gallstones for my wife. Once that is resolved, however, we're looking for cooler climes.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

Man. Whood a thunk us in the NW might seek cooler climes? We here are supposed to hit the upper 90’s the next several days and then continue very warm from there on out for awhile.

You going to Alaska? I hear Barrow is nice this time of year.

You could always head to the coast even if heading to the coast from the Seattle area is a major expidition.

Unlike us where it is only an hour away.

I'm blocks from water and within a mile of the Sound. The Pacific proper is 90 mins. I can personally attest that the climate has changed in my time here. I think this is an El Niño year, too.

Next forays were to be Canada, Northern tier, then Wisconsin to the Great Lakes. Maybe Missouri, too, to visit family. We're on a Lewis and Clark kick. One tricky aspect is caring for our doggie on the travels. We occasionally need to find accommodations, and they have to take pets.

My wife just got a package in the mail... a gorgeous limited edition print of a watercolor painting by Ted Remington, thanking her for everything she has done for him.

What should I do?

Thank him. And ask him what he has been doing. But I am not sure of the connection between Ted and your wife.

Hmm

Sarah Palin and Fox News split - again
Quote
Fox News opted against renewing Palin's contract earlier this month, Politico reported on Wednesday. Palin, who went from a little-known governor of Alaska to a political superstar when John McCain chose her as his running mate in 2008, will reportedly continue to make appearances on Fox News and Fox Business.
....
Fox News initially signed Palin as a commentator in 2010 at a time when her star shone brightly from a memorable vice presidential run. The contract was reportedly worth $1 million a year, a salary that made Palin the highest-paid pundit at the highest-rated channel in cable news.

But after three years, Palin's time at Fox News ended, a departure that was said to be amicable. The separation didn't last. In June 2013, Palin returned to Fox News as a paid contributor.
