Ammo(n) Bundy's little militia stunt and then subsequent arrest and pleading don't jail me bro' and will you please give us all free passage so we can all go back to our wives and children and will you please pretend this never happened, has harmed the militia movement, in my humblest opinion.

Will a take-over of another government facility by "the militia" ever be taken seriously again? Hmm

not in the least

these folks are incapable of comprehending reality

McVeigh apparently understood taking over a bird sanctuary was not the way to fight against the federal government (why are these folks always against the feds and not the state governments which are far more intrusive?) .... if anything it will become a recruitment ad

I guess the feds are far away enough to register as The Other in their little pea-brains. You hardly ever hear about insurrectionists who live in Maryland or Virginia.

Part of me actually thinks you might be onto something there, PIA.
Of course it has been so long since I left Maryland I don't even recognize the place anymore.
I might hail from Maryland but I no longer resemble a native in thought, word or deed, certainly not in mannerisms or speech patterns.
So another part of me wonders if this has just become a mental "virus" that has irrevocably changed and tainted the fabric of American culture as a whole.

And there is a lot to be said for that theory.
I think that forty years and billions of dollars later, Americans have had the anti-government message drummed into their heads so hard and for so long that we seem to have forgotten what it is like to have ANY competent government services.

We also seem to have forgotten what it's like to cheer for American success in manufacturing, in design, in trade, in ANY damn thing. We're just dumb consumer-bots who will line up to buy anything made in China because nowadays we just assume "that's the way it is", almost as if it has ALWAYS been that way.
For anyone born after 1985-ish, it HAS always been that way!
That is an entire generation of Americans who do not know what it was like to live in a country where manufacturing, design and middle class strength was even like or what it was about. That is an entire generation who never knew what it was like to be able to count on competent government services that represented good value for tax dollars spent.

If you ask me, we have bought the seeds of our own destruction hook line and sinker from right wing hucksters who pose as patriots and flag wavers but who secretly HATE everything that made America great. And they would not stop until all those things were torn down and destroyed.
And they may very well have succeeded.

I'm thinking that if, by some chance, they elect a Trump or a Cruz they will quickly come to regret their choice.
And by "they" I mean the entire collection of dangerous Right Wing Extremists who make up the Republican voting block.

If you thought for one moment that George W. Bush with his disastrous wars of choice and the ultimate collapse of the world economy was bad, then let me say, unequivocally, you aint seen nuthin yet.

Speaking of Oregon, Cliven Bundy flew in to support the holdouts and was promptly surrounded by a SWAT team and arrested as he got off the plane.

No mention of the charges against him yet.

Ol Cliven doesn’t appear to be too bright. It is said he was heading to the Malheur Refuge from the Portland airport. If that was true he should have flown to Boise ID which is a 3 hour drive from refuge.

Portland is more than a five hour drive. A piece of trivia: a large swath of Eastern Oregon is on Mountain time. That’s because economically it has closer ties to Idaho businesses than Oregon businesses. The Snake River forms the border between the two states but when one is in Ontario Oregon (and environs) one might as well be in Idaho. It feels and looks like Idaho!
