a Clash of Civilizations ... Good and Evil

Which civilization is good?

ignorance is the enemy
without equality there is no liberty
America can survive bad policy, but not destruction of our Democratic institutions

he reason we have not already launched such an attack

I believe that is correct however there is an ongoing campaign for significant support to strategically attack Iran. Note the saber rattling in today's speech ... nuclear holocaust ... omg ...

wouldn't a "shock-and-awe" victory over the Evil Iranians™ be a suitable cap to an otherwise dismal and failed presidency?

Yes.

Civilisation?

let the bullshit fest commence

"They [the source's institution] have "instructions" (yes, that was the word used) from the Office of the Vice-President to roll out a campaign for war with Iran in the week after Labor Day; it will be coordinated with the American Enterprise Institute, the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard, Commentary, Fox, and the usual suspects. It will be heavy sustained assault on the airwaves, designed to knock public sentiment into a position from which a war can be maintained. Evidently they don't think they'll ever get majority support for this--they want something like 35-40 percent support, which in their book is "plenty."

If you think this report is off the map then you haven't been reading Weekly Standard regularly.

You mean like today's lead article? Yeah, it's started, but it's just now getting up to steam. Media "saturation bombing" is only a matter of days away.

I personally doubt if the White House staff cares if they even get that much. President Bush will just order the strikes and dare anyone to stop him.

Any attempt to take action in congress will be blocked when Republicans fillibuster the bills in the Senate (100% loyalty to Bush, again).

At this stage I believe that George W. Bush has decided to start a war with Iran, just as he did with Iraq. Nothing will stop Bush's war in Iran any more. Nothing.

So, considering that absolutely no law will make it past a Republican fillibustered Senate, the only option left is for Democrats to refuse to fund any more war actions fro Bush. Democrats can take this action since not passing bills is within the math.

What may not be possible is sufficient testicular fortitude for Democrats to actually take such an action. To date that has not been demonstrated, but I can only hope, and write my reps in Congress to take such a stance (two are Democrats and therefore reachable. Senator Specter will, of course make public pronouncements of independence, but actually vote exactly as the White House wants: He rolls over faster than a DC Madam.)

This is their only option. However, as they have done in the past, they will most likely approve more funding plus add a few extra billion for good luck!!

But not before crying pietiously first.

The Democrats appear to be afraid that, if they refuse to give George W. Bush everything he demands, they will be branded as Traitors and "Hating America" by FoxNews.

So, instead they will roll over and play dead for George W. Bush, THEN they will be branded as Traitors and "Hating America" by FoxNews anyway.
