Good to have you back, Hal. As it happens, you deserve the credit (or possibly blame) for my being here. I was a regular visitor to the other side, Capitol Hill Blue, for a number of years before trying out Reader Rant. Your posts on CHB were most entertaining and informative and I looked forward to reading them, especially against the more wacko commenters who were abundant then. That kept me hooked until I eventually slithered over here, where even more intelligent and interesting folks were posting. There's not much in the way of ideological clash anymore (I admit I miss that a little bit), but that makes room for more substantive discussions.

Thanks for the complement. Those were some interesting time. I liked the discipline required to actually write a column at least every week knowing a fair number of people actually read it. Usually it was in the low thousands, but the “Blackwater: God’s Christian Army” got around 20,000 hits. At the time I think it was the second most viewed piece on CHB. I got the first aerial photo of the Blackwater training facility which appeared online. It was very detailed, taken by a friend from his plane.

I am also getting lots of the benefits from taxation that Republican politicians favor and most of their hoard of voters will never see.
Not that it’s a new topic for liberals, but it continues to amaze me how Republicans vote against their true economic interest. Instead they vote for their perceived interest in maintaining the power of white people.
They vote first out of fear, which easily can be roused to anger by a demigod fascist.
There isn’t enough recognition in the press that this all came to a head seven years ago when Obama was elected. His being mixed race portended what was happening all over the country as people from different races had children with each other. It caused a deep fear in millions of them.
While I like Bernie and understand his appeal, and see why some liberals find fault with Hillary, I still think electing a liberal woman would really stick it in the eyes of these bigot.
At 72, I think I may just live to see them become a minority.

California Rick transformed to PDX Rick…. glad Portland let him in as there’s an attitude among Portlandia hipsters against California carpetbaggers. I'm well aware of that. But, I'm attractive and nice - so they over look that I'm from California now.

The piece that Doug wrote called "Psychiatrist on the couch" or something like that (About George W) ...brought me here to Reader Rant in 2005. Before that, I was doing Rants and Raves on Craigslist. Boy that sure was like the Wild West. You could say anything and not be called on the carpet for it. As with all things...Craigslist Rants and Raves changed and started requiring signing in and being heavily moderated and not being fun any longer. I gave up there and made Reader Rant my home. I never really got into Capital Hill Blue though. I like this side of CHB better.

Is there a difference between low information and wrong information voters? Same side of the coin, really.

Thanks Greger @) There are new beginnings, and there are NEW beginnings… often they come from tragedy, forced on us, not to get too maudlin as I sure do welcome spring… I hear snow with a real feel low of 18 is forecast from the town in Massachusetts I moved from…. I really liked the snow and miss it here, however Portland has a natural beauty that changes with the seasons that I appreciate too.
