I personally doubt if the White House staff cares if they even get that much. President Bush will just order the strikes and dare anyone to stop him. I believe they do want more than baseline die-hard GOP public support. That would make it a bit easier when it happens. I will speculate the Pres doesn't need any confirmation from Congress. He will act and claim it was in our national interest.

[quote] So, instead they will roll over and play dead for George W. Bush, THEN they will be branded as Traitors and "Hating America" by FoxNews anyway. As well as from many of their own party. Believe me. I am greatly disappointed in them. I have always been in the democratic party and have mostly voted dem, but not for every position. I just don't understand why they talk up the storm but then when it comes time they seem to cave-in. I write my senators and Congressmen, and all I ever get back are canned responses. So, why bother writing at all. I bet they don't even read them to see what my points are. I feel I am one of those citizens without a party. Don't get me wrong. I think our chances are still better with dems in charge, but I still think this country is doomed. We are going down. Especially if we attack Iran. We will be lucky to survive as a planet if this happens!

Kimberly Kagan has been writing those articles for some time now. Also Bill Roggio and he has a blog. These two supply the neocons with all the military "good news" they can create. Many neocon articles reference these two as sources.
Roggio has been working hard to lay foundation for Iranian interference. What he fails to mention is in every case the military admits it still does not have evidence which directly ties the Iranian government with those supplying the weapons. But of course this doesn't bother him as laying blame on Iran fits neatly with the future neocon agenda of attacking Iran.

Since now, other NeoCons can cite him as their proof. Later, he will declare that he has external proof by citing those other sources (who cited him) as HIS external proof. The fact that this is circular reasoning will not mean a thing to Conservatives. And the mainstream media will never pick up on it as that would require two things that have been surgically removed from the Chris Mathews of the world: A spine The willingness to actually research their own information. It is a brilliant strategy that will work completely.

He will act and claim it was in our national interest. I wish that I shared your high opinion of George W. Bush, Congress and our public media. What would happen if George W. Bush just ordered air strikes on Iran and the reason his spokespeople gave was, "because he felt like it"? Would anyone actually DO anything? Would the Democrats actually introduce bills of impeachment? Would the Republicans in the Senate NOT fillibuster any bill halting funding? Would Chris Mathews NOT go into a lather about what a MAN George Bush was and how much he wanted to "have a beer" with him? The White House has, apparently correctly, concluded that they have as much power as they ever did with the rubber-stamp Republicans running Congress. And now they can blame everything that goes wrong on the Democrats (logic is not necessary here, since no one appears to use it any more). If George W. Bush decided he wanted to stay on for another year or two, just to Stay the Course some more, who is to stop him? No one. Republicans will cheer him on. Democrats apparently have no power. The media is somnamulent. I'm

Would the Republicans in the Senate NOT fillibuster any bill halting funding? Just a reminder, as Dennis Kucinich is fond of pointing out. No filibuster can prevent Congress from not funding. If the Dem leadership refuses to bring a funding bill to the floor, then there is no funding.

The Republican item was a reference to blind party loyalty above that to their country. The Democratic reference was to spinelesness. Different afflictions, same result.

If the Dem leadership refuses to bring a funding bill to the floor, then there is no funding. The weak-kneed Democratic Congress will back down every time. As Ms Price has pointed out, they will end up funding the war and tacking on a few billion just to show that they are more American than President George Walker Bush. They are pathetic, worthless and predictable. When the Republican Party shuts down Congress (by filibustering every piece of legislation until the House passes the Middle East Peace Act and accompanying emergency appropriations bill) the Democrats will, in the end, knuckle under to the real leader of the Free World and stop attempting to hinder the president from doing what needs to be done. They know the president is right and will, with time, follow the only logical course, the only moral course, the only possible course open to this country. President George Walker Bush has the vision and the courage, all the rest of us have to do is follow.
