It would be even worse if we allow radical extremist militia types to go around blowing up federal buildings, threatening federal agents and setting fires in our national preserves. Heck, both the Hammonds and the Bundys had a sweetheart deal with their grazing leases. All they had to do is work with the BLM on the long term land preservation and pay the much discounted fees they required for grazing rights. Sheesh....
IMO, common sense tells me that they knew their respective outcomes would be worse if they decided to disobey the law. They gambled their life, liberty and property and lost, end of story. They had their freedom to do what they wanted, make their living, pursuit of happiness and all that. They wasted it away for a few bucks in grazing fees and some half baked nonsensical ideology. Think about that, for $139 they could feed and water 100 head of cattle for a month and the calves feed for free. Such a bargain.
They thought the rest of Americans would stand up to defend their idiotic beliefs but only a handful even gave a crap because these idiots were nothing more than admitted criminals. The majority of Americans see this as clear as day. Sure, they can claim that "majority of one" thing but, that and a dollar might buy them a cup of coffee. That's about all.
David Koresh, Jim Jones and the like comes to mind. Complete nut jobs.

This liberal affection for the state (statism) is very disturbing for the future of the nation. We've heard the sky is falling as far back as the beginning of social security to the more recent ACA and yet, aside from the invasion of Iraq (and the subsequent Patriot Act) we've managed to maintain most of our civil liberties, we still live in a (flawed but functional, if you can call it functional) democratic republic. We've even staved off the rightwingnuts drive to turn this country into a fascist state. The State does not own the means of production nor the profits there from. Socially, we may have opened the doors of freedom to some Americans who some don't think deserve equal freedom but, it's only fair you know, every man created equal and all. Yet we've seen the USSR fold, lived through two major banking/economic failures and believe it or not, a black man living in the Whitehouse. Imagine that, nearly 240 years and the commies still haven't taken over America. Ok, I'll bite. How wil this sad injustice to these common criminals finally bring down the house upon us? Please enlighten us.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.
Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

UPDATE 05-25-2016Oh hey! What's happening with the Bundy Bros? Ryan has some complaints about being in jail for breaking federal law? So sad! This is soooo UNFAIR because, because according to their special secret pocket-version of the Constitution, the federal government isn’t the boss of them. What are you complaining about Ryan Bundy? All of my First Amendment rights are being violated. My right to freedom of religion is being violated. I cannot participate in religious activities and temple covenants, and wear religious garments. […] My right to freedom of speech is being hampered by monitoring and recording. My right to freedom of assembly is being violated; I am not allowed to see my brother and move about. Yesterday, I attempted to discuss these issues with the U.S. Marshals, and they said that these were simply the jail rules. […] My Second Amendment rights are being violated. I never waived that right. Linky Dinky That’s right, Ryan is soooo GRRRRRRRR MAD! that he can’t have his guns. IN JAIL?!? Sheesh!!! And!!!! They won’t even let him sit around with his bro and make plans to fight government tyranny!!!! So UNFAIR!!!

The jail also says the co-defendants don’t get to hang out together, even if they are brothers. Sorry, boys! No crossing streams after dark, and no plotting to take down the government. Life isn’t fair, we all know.
