It's called "Doublethink":
Quote
the acceptance of or mental capacity to accept contrary opinions or beliefs at the same time, especially as a result of political indoctrination.
According to Wikipedia:
Quote
Doublethink is the act of simultaneously accepting two mutually contradictory beliefs as correct, often in distinct social contexts.[1] Doublethink is related to, but differs from, hypocrisy and neutrality. Also related is cognitive dissonance, in which contradictory beliefs cause conflict in one's mind. Doublethink is notable due to a lack of cognitive dissonance — thus the person is completely unaware of any conflict or contradiction.

George Orwell created the word doublethink in his dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (published in 1948); doublethink is part of newspeak. In the novel, its origin within the typical citizen is unclear; while it could be partly a product of Big Brother's formal brainwashing programmes,[2] the novel explicitly shows people learning doublethink and newspeak due to peer pressure and a desire to "fit in", or gain status within the Party — to be seen as a loyal Party Member. In the novel, for someone to even recognize — let alone mention — any contradiction within the context of the Party line was akin to blasphemy, and could subject that someone to disciplinary action and to the instant social disapproval of fellow Party Members.
In this case, the Republican party has taken this concept and applied it to its membership, as has been seen publicly throughout the current campaign (and even since the advent of Ronald Reagan). It is remarkable how prescient Orwell really was, although he might have misidentified the party.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

The House will continue to be as useless as their 40 Obamacare defunding votes.

Ummmmmm, I think it's more like 57 Obamacare defunding votes, no?

As the bruises and pain of the past election become more apparent and hopefully begin to heal, a couple things stand out for me:
1. 46% of eligible voters DID NOT VOTE AT ALL So they were not a part of the "pissed off" majority, but just take everything as though they must.
2. California is an amazing oasis in all this, voting for progressive candidates in solid numbers. Further, Los Angeles County did an amazing job of planning for the future and voting as thoughtful people.
It seems to me the 25% who voted for Trump did not so much vote for HIM as they did to object to having been forced over many years to conform to a more liberal, Constitutionally sound approach to laws and living.
I am now in the "older" category and so are an overwhelming large share of those who voted for Trump and the Republicans. We will die sooner than later.
So I ask you who are under 60 years of age, what are you DOING about your anger and upsets? Talking is not enough Being depressed is understandable but not if it gets in your way of organizing for your future.
I did my best in the 1960's and did not get all the way there, but I put my life on the line and made many changes to this nation.
It is now up to you. Who will you be for the changes yet to be made?

I have a lot of millennials in my Facebook feed because I have 22 yr old. Most of them voted, even the ones who had never voted before.
Some are gay, some are trans. Some are Hispanic or black.

They are livid. All of them.

Many are going to a "Not My President" protest in Tampa today.

I believe this has been a wake up call to all millennials. This is something they are not going to forget. An new generation of political activists has been created and they are not the sort to remain silent.

I have been marching in the #NotMyPresident marches here in NYC as the Grandpa. I have tried to help with my experience (much like Phil's, derived from the 60s).
I see an ocean of millennials of every background raising their voices and not afraid to be arrested. They are non-violent and they are NOT AFRAID to face off with any repression that shows its ugly head.
It warms my heart to see them and to be a part of these demonstrations.
They are our future and they "ain't gonna take this lying down".

Trump is nothing but whatever will help him line his pockets.

Actually, we have no idea if he is a Liberal or a Conservative. One thing for sure, we know he is a pathological liar. He could simply ignore every campaign promise, if he wants. He certainly already did during the campaign.

Remember his "Secret Plans" that consisted of giving the Generals 30 days to come up with a plan? If they come up with something that sounds good to him, then that is his plan.

Let's just hope he has reasonable people around him.
