I am as shaken right now as I was on 9/11. I simply cannot fathom what tomorrow holds. Brexit demonstrated that democracy could be a dangerous tool, and tonight has redoubled my doubts. I genuinely doubt I will live to see my beloved country's recovery. Perhaps it is the storm before the calm, and maybe I am just too shocked to keep my normal optimistic outlook, but to go from the most popular president in my lifetime to this... is unfathomable. The Supreme Court is likely lost for my lifetime. The optimism I felt with the passage of Obamacare has evaporated. The very foundations of my belief in American ideals are shattered.

We survived the Civil War; we survived WWII, AND the Great Depression. The resignation of a President did not defeat us. We made it through the last recession, and we're on a hopeful path. But... how many disasters can we ultimately endure? Bleek times are ahead, but maybe tomorrow they won't seem insurmountable. God, I hope so.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich
