My driving partner is as "country conservative" as you can get. But we have great discussions, and he is persuadable. For example, we had a long discussion about universal health care. We got as far as agreeing that we should have it, but gets hung up on how we proceed.
I think the answer is subject matter advocacy, rather than a new party. There are universal ideals that can be tapped into. Then use that to take control of the party. The Democratic party is closer to that than the Republicans, in my view. One question: how do you get corporate money out of the equation? How can the Dems do a 180 and toss all their lobbyists and donors and big banks out and say, now we are a different party. Good question. I guess you haven't made any progress on the answer, yet? Would love to hear your insights into the matter. I wouldn't have asked the question if I had the answer...

Clinton's unexpected losses in industrial states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania -- as well as the razor-edge race in Michigan, which CNN has not called — underscored the view of Democratic strategists who privately complained throughout 2016 that Clinton hadn't found a message that connected with working-class Americans. This is certainly a part of it. However, one thing is the candidate herself not connecting. Another is the party not connecting. Her message was very centered on people she knew would vote for her. Logo, she didn't gain much traction. But I wouldn't lay this so squarely at her feet as I would at the feet of the Democratic leadership.

AND NOW that SAME defective leadership is preparing to appoint MORE of the SAME in Howard Dean, a lobbyist for health insurance companies.
Can they possibly be even more tone deaf than anyone ever thought? Prepare for a thirty year period of Democrat marginalization the likes of which we haven't seen yet, even bigger than the Era of Newt.
ALEC now has 70% of the city, county and state legislatures in a stranglehold. Get ready for NINETY percent. Democrats will be CRUSHED, perhaps permanently.
The ONLY thing that can save the Democratic Party now is an abrupt about face shift to straight liberal working class themes and efforts, and they will need BILLIONS to mount that effort successfully but more importantly, they will need someone who represents a very LARGE SIGNAL to middle class families.

Sanders is promoting Keith Ellison for DNC chair. A petition is circulating... sign it. There is probably more that can be done and I am deferring to Zeke to take the lead, put that experience and hard work to good use! Keith Ellison for DNC Chair!

Sanders is promoting Keith Ellison for DNC chair. A petition is circulating... sign it. There is probably more that can be done and I am deferring to Zeke to take the lead, put that experience and hard work to good use! Keith Ellison for DNC Chair! The Ellison petition is a good idea. Hopefully, if successful, he can start to clean house and a build a narrative for the party that has more relevance to the true base - young people, women's movements, BLM, and working families, etc. Here in NY we have a party called "Working Families" that endorsed Clinton (originally supported Sanders until she became the nominee). I suggest that anyone interested in making a commitment, affiliate themselves with a similar progressive movement. Use their database and resources to begin community activities aimed at educating your neighbors. They promote discussions on an issue-by-issue basis providing facts (not fantasy) about crucial political questions. ALL WHITE PEOPLE should begin to get involved in the BLM movement, offering whatever help they can: financial, manual labor, etc. They need it and will very much appreciate it. In order to address income inequality we MUST END SYSTEMIC RACISM. There are local chapters of BLM all over the country. National Popular Vote is an organization dedicated to making state-by-state changes to the laws surrounding the electoral college. The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes nationwide (i.e., all 50 states and the District of Columbia). It has been enacted into law in 11 states with 165 electoral votes, and will take effect when enacted by states with 105 more electoral votes. The bill has passed one chamber in 12 additional states with 96 electoral votes. Most recently, the bill was passed by a bipartisan 40–16 vote in the Republican-controlled Arizona House, 28–18 in Republican-controlled Oklahoma Senate, 57–4 in Republican-controlled New York Senate, and 37–21 in Democratic-controlled Oregon House. Written Explanation Status in Each State Everyone should get involved in this by pressuring state and local reps to take on the effort. BTW, remarkably, this has been accepted in a fairly bi-partisan manner, so it need not be a terrible uphill battle. If you are a member, or can become a member of a Union, that is always a great place to start. Discussions with folks who work in the same field can be helpful. This does not mean one should be condescending or overbearing. LISTEN first, then if you feel the opportunity, present alternatives and suggestions (much the same way NW_P described with respect to his driving partner). You are not going to change someone's mind from one day to the next. But, if you point out real life instances where your ideas can be helpful, that will go a long way toward persuasion. Before you shoot your mouth off KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT and always back up your ideas with facts. However, turn in into a story, or a format that your interlocutor understands. DO NOT TALK DOWN, be natural, but be sure of what you're saying. Get involved in organized protests of all issues that you feel strongly about. Your physical presence says more to others than any money or kind words you may have to say. There's much more that people can do. But I'm running out of wind for the moment.

What is the policy platform to promote?

We don't have a BLM movement locally (0.9% blacks in the population). What else should I be doing?
