I reject any attempt at accepting this presidency. I reject the notion that he should be given a chance - fascists do not get any chances in my book (the results of a chance are all too clear throughout history). There is only one position that makes sense to me and that is in staunch and direct opposition to the legitimacy of this government (Clinton has, at last count, over 1 million votes more than Trump). Trump and his gang ran on deception, lies, false promises, bigotry (in all of its forms), misogyny, etc., and that, in and of itself, delegitimizes this election. Too many people around the world (and in this country) have lost their lives to defeat the ideas that he used to get himself elected, ideas that he has now given a seat to in the White House. No, there can be no reprieve. There can be no acceptance. There can be no - wait and see. Too many tyrants have remained in power because of complacency and "being nice". Authoritarians only understand strength so it is with strength that they must be opposed.

"...the next 4 years." I have seen this term, or words equaling it all to often since the election. The next chance we have to change the dynamics at the Federal level, is in 2018. We flip the House, if P-e Trump could be elected then flipping the House in one election is also possible. But why stop with the House, lets flip our state legislators, we have another Constitutionally mandated re-districting in 2021. How about we motivate these millennials and those coming after to remove re-districting from the hands of politicians? Redistricting commission. There is little we can do now to change what is, our road map to change is laid out for us by election cycles.
Vote 2022!

The Senate could flip in 2018, too, assuming approx. 1/3 of Senators are elected every 2 years.

no assumption - Constitutional mandate
the is the technical question of distribution - if all Republican/conservatives seats are on full tilt right wing, there will not be a flip of anything
then there is the question even if there is a possibility, Trump supporters living in fear of "colored" folks will continue to vote for white power
and then there is this - rational folks need not apply for elected office at the federal level i.e. fear has driven the discussion further to the right

here is a real life example of a possible immigration issue
my oldest son teaches in the PRC ... while there, he married a national ... next year he wants his in-laws and wife to visit America ... Mr Trump has a "policy" of deportation of illegals who are criminals but some of these countries will not accept criminals .... PRC is one of those countries ... the Trump reciprocity "policy" is to deny visas ... thus my son is caught in limbo
ignorance is the enemy without equality there is no liberty America can survive bad policy, but not destruction of our Democratic institutions

Otherwise, we are stuck in the same quagmire that we currently find ourselves in.

In 2018 there are 23 Democratic senate seats up for re-election and only 8 Republican. We will likely see more seats go Republican.

The issue for the next few months/years (hopefully) are the bottom of the pyramid: In short, survival.
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

I just realized that the pyramid could double for the electorate...

The work to be able to flip anything begins now, with a RENEWED Dem party that is willing to go out and get the votes to make changes in Congress possible. Otherwise, we are stuck in the same quagmire that we currently find ourselves in. The Democrat Party also needs to stop pushing flawed candidates with "vast work experience" on us voters. Clearly Obama didn't have "vast work experience" nor does Trump. "Vast work experience" is not a concern to most American voters. I would hope that character is (...and that's why Bernie should have been the nominee), but clearly neither party went for character this time around. We Dems should have, but didn't.
