Oh, Kathy, it's really hard to say. I've been trying to think what I'd say about it, to see if I wanted to post it here.

The writer is very clever - in addition to the line I used, he refers (among other things) to woodpeckers rattling dice in the woods - he's definitely creative with language.

The premise is that Israel collapsed in 1948, and a large chunk of the diaspora was given land in Sitka, Alaska. But that land is about to return to the US. The story is written with a lot of Yiddish words and something of a Yiddish rhythm, but is basically a 1940s noir-style detective story. With a big chunk of politics thrown in at the end.

So...it was seriously interesting, but somehow not a pageturner, nu?
