' The Big Problem with Russian Communism was that there were no safeguards for the party Aparatchiks when they were no longer in office (Sie hatte kein ampt).
It is relatively easy to get good people into office; what is hard is to pry them loose from office when their usefulness has ended.
Capitalism does that with some efficiency; communist intolerance of corruption makes it hard to ease the bureaucrats from power. Thence arises the difficulty in having Stalinism with a human face.
On the other hand, capitalist venality provides the grease to keep the machinery of administration functioning.
Give the commie apparatchiks adequate retirement benefits, and then you can keep them from clawing to keep their privileges. .
Once, weapons were manufactured to fight wars; today, wars are manufactured to sell weapons
It is far easier to deceive folks than to convince them they are deceived

Weep afresh, America
A headline for the ages. Every hour and every minute every day we are beset with more and more bad news. Romans probably said the same at about this point in their fall.
But Russian Communism? It failed because it was Russian! When have they ever done anything right? An entire civilization based on beating square pegs into round holes.
Good coffee, good weed, and time on my hands...
