Sierra snow pack has 97% of average water content. California seems to be doing okay.

Well, given their ongoing disasters they really do deserve a break! That will also mean there will be less Californians moving up here. I swear, I am beginning to believe that those of us native to the area (Pacific Northwest) are seriously outnumbered by refugees from California.

The really strange thing is that, as a bunch of refugees, they are not all bad. They look like us and they talk like us - another way to say that would be; "They don't look or talk funny!). AMAZING!!!

Yes, Western Washington and Oregon would probably join California if the US ever split up, Not sure about the Eastern parts of those states.

NewSealand
‘Cheeky’ sea lions are returning to New Zealand’s shores — and locals are learning to share the coast

This is not really a new area for the Sea Lions to breed, as they were driven away to subantarctic islands by hunting. Some locals are saying that a name change to New Sealand should be considered. It great to have them back said locals, what could go worng?

The return of endangered New Zealand sea lions to breed on the mainland after hundreds of years has sparked delight among conservationists, but also some surprising moments for residents.

The sea lions have popped up in unexpected — and sometimes populated — places in recent years, including a golf course (prompting the city council to close down a busy road for weeks to ensure the mom and pup could cross the road to get to the beach) and a forest. One young sea lion even waddled through automatic doors to dip into a community pool.

New Zealand’s conservation agency will use the research to plan how best to manage land, removing potential barriers that could stop female sea lions from reaching breeding habitats. The country is keen to manage threats to the endangered animals, given the sharp declines in the number of pups since the late ’90s, according to Boren.

“The habitat and foraging and everything for the females on the mainland is better quality for them” compared with the subantarctic islands, she added. “We do hope that we’ll see more of them coming back on the mainland.”

We are going to have a pretty interesting summer................
Now that I live in Bremerton, the Olympics are right out my window. smile

I think its fair to say that virtually the entire world is experience some drought. Our southern border is full of people that are hungry and moving away from their homes because they can no longer grow enough to feed themselves. My own thought is that the thousands on our borders are just a few of what's coming. Our government, however, doesn't seem to notice they are hungry and blame it all on bad governance, gangs, etc. Our Midwest is in straights as well.

Its pretty interesting. California too is in drought. They just had a big rainfall but my understanding is that their reservoirs were slightly improved at best. the entire world is, basically, in serious trouble. What confuses me is that there is very little being reported, except for the occasional single sentence that goes something like; "XXX is experiencing drought" (XXX for wherever which, on reflection means everywhere). There is also, I think, more and more big buildings being built to house the raising of vegetables, saving water, and running year round. Seems to me that some with money have decided to get into the farming business which might be able to survive the lack of water.

Then there are those evil dams. Everybody wants them gone. We ripped one out up here. It was only going to cost a little bit. It ended up costing something like 5 billion dollars and put our town's water supply in danger. Most of the existing dams also store water for the use of agriculture. Without them things will be a LOT worse and food prices are going to go through the roof.

Just saying .....

What happens when the dams fill up with sediment instead of water?

A big cat, or a big box?
