I really don't think politics is his particular motivation as much as the Constitution. While he may view the Constitution from a conservative perspective, he will follow the law.

He's following the law by waiting six months to release evidence pertinent to the impeachment case....No political motivation there?
He figured he'd be safe since the trial in the Senate should have happened before Christmas...Pelosi threw a wrench in his plan.

And I see in the headlines he's pretty concerned with "fake news" too.
When most of us think of "fake news" it's usually truthful reporting about Donald Trump. He seems to be warning America about that.

He's a Republican first and foremost. He voted for Trump, he will do all he can to protect Trump.

The Supreme Court has a primary goal not to screw up the Judicial Branch, so they tend to do things like keep ObamaCare even though other Republicans are trying to wreck it. Throwing millions of people off their health insurance would be a disaster for the courts. And Republicans on the Supreme Court have a much longer term view than congress-critters. If they did kill ObamaCare with no immediate replacement, it would wipe out the Republican Party at the next several elections.

Roberts understands the idea of "over-step" very well. That's when one Party does something stupid they have been asking for, even though it is a total fiasco. These are just "talking points". Like kicking all the illegals out. Republicans say they want that, but the truth is their donor class depends on cheap labor that can be deported if it makes any trouble. They say "end abortion" but then get them for their bimbos.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued his New Year’s Eve annual report urging his fellow federal judges to stand up for democracy, encouraging the judges to “do our best to maintain the public’s trust that we are faithfully discharging our solemn obligation to equal justice under the law."

Quote
In our age, when social media can instantly spread rumor and false information on a grand scale, the public’s need to understand our government, and the protections it provides, is ever more vital...

Quote
We should celebrate our strong and independent judiciary, a key source of national unity and stability.

Quote
We should reflect on our duty to judge without fear of favor, deciding each matter with humility, integrity and dispatch.

In other words, Roberts will not stand for, or be pressured by, any of #MoscowMitch's or Trump's conniving bullshyte.

Judges in general and the Supreme Court specifically do not like it when people lie in court or bring some issue with a phony pretense. Perjury threatens the very integrity of the court system.

This puts them directly in conflict with Trump's legal strategy. This is why Trump does so poorly when he gets his cases to court, even when his team faces judges he appointed. He thinks they are all "Trump judges" but almost all of them are conservative judges from Heritage Society recommendations. They may be even more critical of crazy new legal theories than liberal judges!

Let's see how they rule, before we decide their Party is more important to them than the constitution. Trump expects liberal behavior from conservative judges: Not likely, because these guys are all about following the laws, not the person (Trump). So don't expect the Supreme Court to change the entire meaning of Article 1, just to suit Trump and every future President, Republican or Democrat.

I didn't expect them to gut the Voting Rights Act.
But they did, without even batting an eye.

Their reasoning was "We elected a Black man President, so we don't need it any more." Awfully short-sighted. We obviously do.

Still, that was a law, not the first article of the constitution and the basis of checks and balances.

Democrats are apparently concerned of the political blowback of impeachment from Trump supporters.

I guess that means some folks are afraid impeaching a duly elected official may offend a bunch of aholes, so their thought is they should allow said elected official free rein to conduct criminal conspiracies from the WH in full view of the public and laugh at those who should be guardians of Democracy.

I dunno ... if you don't have the balls to do the right thing .... please resign

I agree: The Republicans are all about fear. Democrats should be braver. If any Democratic Congressman or Senator is afraid of Trump voters feelings, they need to announce their retirement and let someone with some balls run in 2020.

I love Nancy's new tack: Trump impeachment is not important. Indictment, trial, and prison sentence is in the future. Trump has committed lots of actual crimes, that hundreds of federal prosecutors have said they would indict him for. He's already confessed! Plus we have tons of documentation.

This is not a case of "imprison you political opponent". He's an actual criminal, and most of these are not political crimes.

This is new. Emails between OMB and the Pentagon about Ukraine were released a while back, but heavily redacted. Now the unredacted versions the House has been requesting have been made public, and they are damning:

Unredacted Ukraine Documents

Seems OMB continually misunderstood the process and mischaracterized what was going on to hide the illegal acts of the President. Then tried to blame the Pentagon after they ignored Pentagon warnings repeatedly.
