With all the attention the very avid pro and anti Trumpers are giving the trial, arguing over having witnesses or not. Perhaps it’s all meaningless. Most Americans have their minds made up about Trump’s impeachment and removal way before the official hearings began on 13 Nov. Less and less folks are giving the trial much attention, tuning it out and watching impeachment free TV shows and networks. Going about their daily lives giving impeachment and removal not a thought.

“For all the gravity of a presidential impeachment trial, Americans don’t seem to be giving it much weight.”

The results were well known in advance. The only suspense is how Collins, Murkowski, Jones and Manchin will vote. Will they be loyal to their party or to the folks in their states?

I was around for Nixon’s impeachment, everyone seemed glued to it. Bill Clinton’s, not so much. Trump’s is even less. Could it be Bill Clinton’s and Trump’s were/are one partisan political party affairs? Nixon’s was more non-partisan and Nixon’s crime warranting impeachment and removal much easier for the public to understand. Who care about lying to congress or obstruction of congress? Congress critters lie to us every day. Besides, congress was a more respected institution back in 1974. Not so today when only 24% of all Americans view Congress favorably while 64% view them unfavorably. Trump has a higher favorable rating than that, 43% favorable/51% unfavorable.

Seems to me that if one isn’t a political junkie, if one doesn’t either love or hate Trump, if one isn’t a die-hard political party loyalist, the average American isn’t paying the trial much attention.

It's high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first instead of their political party. For way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.
