To the OP, if I could address your last point about Evangelicals, I would recommend MOST of "Immoral Majority", by Ben Howe. A member of the Covservative Commentariat and from the Evangelical wing, while he engages in nutpicking for some of his supporting evidence, his discussion of how and why he acted the way he (and others like him) did (up until the point where he could no longer self-delude) is... sometimes scathing, and sometimes sorrowful, but insightful. I would also recommend (for everything except his opinions about how some new fella with a French name is now better than Michael Jordan which is factually, scientifically, and morally heretical) David French on this topic, for a discussion of Conservative Evangelicals from a Trump-opposing insider's perspective.

I'm currently half way through this book and am pleasantly surprised at how well written it is and how thoughtful it is. I went in to it slightly scared that it would be nothing but example after example of "they believe this but they support this person. Bad evangelical!" But it goes deeper into philosophy and more nuanced positions than I expected, and also gives the reasons for their behavior which I think make a strong argument.

Can't speak for all evangelicals but of the ones I know, and they are all ardent Trump supporters, they deal in hate ... they hate everyone .... Democrats .... Muslims .... brown skinned people .... black skinned people ... etc

Why, yes they have, but they believe it was a meeting of white christians like themselves and that it was held in a gated community with private security.

Jesus was the original Bernie Sanders. Funny how many so-called Christians make feeding the hungry illegal, though this dooms them to everlasting damnation according to Jesus. It's almost like they don't believe in Jesus or Hell!

Evangelicals tend, I think, to be fans of the Old Testament and don't spend a lot of time with the New Testament. They call themselves "Christians" but are really not. They share the Old Testament with the Muslims and a LOT of what they spout is exactly the same as Muslim Extremists (Muslims revere the Old
Testament and Jesus is considered a great prophet. Muslim Sharia Law, for instance, comes from the old testament. Its a great book! With that you can, basically, prove whatever you want - it, pretty much, covers EVERYTHING!

They just ignore all that liberal crap from Jesus but they do invoke His name - A LOT! (that's about it)

....no. The Omniscient Omnipotent Unmade Maker of the entire Universe does not fit into any set of 21st Century Western Political Opinions. He is rather bigger than that.

I am aware of local governments doing this, but note that it is usually the cities, run by the political left, which do so. On the other side, conservatives (and Christians) tend to be the ones who spend more time actually manning the soup kitchens and food banks.

Glad you are enjoying it - I, too, appreciated the arguments that followed both the social science and the position-arguments. Nutpicking is an easy form of argument, but not a convincing one.
