Not really. I've always said that if the Democrats nominate someone attractive to independents they'll win in a landslide. Nominate someone as disliked or disliked more than Trump by independents, another 2016 is very possible.
The ball is in the Democrats hands, who they hand that ball off to will determine the fate of November.
Now I have always pointed to or said that the Democrats need a fresh young face, if that face young face is from flyover country, so much the better. Fresh young faces from flyover country has done pretty good for the Democrats, Jimmy Carter, Georgia, Bill Clinton, Arkansas, Obama Illinois. Old tired liberals from the Northeast, not so good. Dukakis Massachusetts, Kerry Massachusetts, Hillary, New York.
I think Trump's uptick is from the one party impeachment process. Bill Clinton's approval rating also improved during his impeachment by a good 6 points. But a couple of months later, it was back down. Trump's will do the same.
It's high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first instead of their political party. For way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

Trump Job Approval at Personal Best 49% Looks like four more years doesn't it? You seem to be looking forward to that. I am emotionally prepared for it. LOL, you know I had resigned myself to a Hillary Clinton presidency when it became apparent the Republicans were going to nominate Trump. I was totally surprised he won. I went to bed around 10PM knowing full well this country would have to put up with 4 years of Hillary. I was prepared for that also. 2016 was a good news, bad news election for me. The good news, Hillary lost, the bad news, Trump won. I'll add one more thing going over the numbers. The Democrats had momentum, they had the enthusiasm and energy to get out and vote in November. They had quite an advantage which showed itself in 2018. But this one party impeachment hasn't dampen the democrats enthusiasm, but it seems to have awaken the Republicans. I'd say for the first time in 2 years or more, the enthusiasm gap in favor of the democrats has been erased.

That was my fear about impeachment from the start. That it would hand another term to Trump. You and I were in agreement a few months ago that probably the Dems could pull this off without it costing them the election.
We coulda been wrong about that.

It's all about timing: Pelosi is a master politician. Trump is not. By November, it won't even be close. Republicans have sealed their fate with the weight of a rigged trial around their necks. Everybody knows it was rigged, even Trump supporters. They could have made a much better fake trial by seeming to be fair and then voting just short of conviction. They didn't because they want everybody to know it was rigged. This is hubris, and non-idiots know how that always works out.
Everything that comes out over the next 9 months is just going to add to that weight.

Early on I thought it might be ...uh...the Texas guy, I forgot his name. It's looking like Buttigieg might fit that profile. Politically we may not be perfectly aligned but there are a lot of things I like about Mayor Pete. Mostly the fresh face. In fact that may be the only thing I like about him. But I'd vote for him.

I'd vote for him, too. Doesn't mean a majority of the voters in those MidWest electoral college states would vote for a gay guy. In fact, some moron in Iowa says he wants his Pete caucus vote back because he found out Pete is gay.

We coulda been wrong about that. Costing the Democrats the election remains to be seen. Americans have short memories, This impeachment process will be replaced by some other major event, happening which we'll all be talking about. Folks have a habit of looking at every major event and calling it a game changer. It is for a couple of weeks, then everything returns back to where it was prior to the event taking place. Impeachment has slowly worked against the Democrats, but not by much. RCP averages back on 13 Nov when the official hearings began had it 48-45 in favor of impeachment and removal. Today, it's 47-48 against impeachment and removal. That's not much movement, if one takes the margin of error into consideration, it basically is no movement at all. Bottom line, the democrats failed to convince anyone that wasn't already convince that Trump needed to be impeached and removed on 13 Nov. No new recruits came to the Democrats side on this. As for the public as a whole, both sides are right where they were when all of this started. A wash in my book. Who the Democrats nominate will determine their fate in November, not impeachment. That's how I see it.

I don't know much about Buttigieg. But he is a fresh, young, energetic fellow which at least seems to come across as being real, genuine and not a fake. He also isn't an old tired out over 70 northeastern liberal. I have to learn a bit more about this guy from South Bend. But I have a feeling I'd vote for him too. It's time for the younger generation to take over.

In fact, some moron in Iowa says he wants his Pete caucus vote back because he found out Pete is gay. It saddens me because his sexual orientation should not even be an issue, especially after almost four years of the Pussy Grabber. Maybe the entire USA isn't ready for a gay POTUS but I'd bet the larger portion IS ready, I'd agree. What worries me however, is the indisputable fact that much of the rest of the world is NOT ready. Pete being gay shouldn't be an issue in the USA, and it wouldn't be an issue in the EU, or even in Canada or Mexico either. It WILL however, be an issue in the entire Middle East, so much so that I fear the risk of him being assassinated if he travels there. I also don't hold out much hope for much for Russia, Africa or Latin America either. We may be ready for a gay president (well, at least the larger part of "we" anyway) but I'm afraid much of the world is decidedly not ready. And that would seriously handicap "President Pete" in the foreign policy arena.
