It's not just a panic. Somebody on market watch was saying a number of companies are going to be bankrupt within a month. Once we get a solution to Covid-19, a heck of a lot of economic infrastructure has to be rebuilt before things get back to normal. Even then, things will be different. Some important people will be dead. Some rich people will be poor. Some poor people will be rich. Different companies will occupy the markets of current companies.

Them that claim they understand say this one is not going to go away quite as easily as the one Obama had to deal with. We'll see. The market desperately needed a major adjustment and the virus provided the impetus. Maybe it's the debt as Dana says. Maybe it's just a stutter in the economy and once we get past the virus panic it will all work itself out...? I'd like to be a fly in Trump's head right now. It would be very roomy. You could probably open up a fly resort with its own airport.

WOW!!!
The talking heads of TV are saying that the economy is collapsing because of Trump's gross incompetence and Covid-19. Basically, Trump is destroying his own economy! So, Trump is a noted incompetent, the destroyer of his own economy that he needs to get re-elected, and, just possibly, a modern day Covid-19 carrier ("Covid Don" - modern day Typhoid Mary but for Covid-19).
There are also reports that the Trump true believers are not washing their hands, do not believe that there is a Covid-19, and are ignoring any and all suggestion as to how not to get sick from it. The only thing they are now missing is a good Trump Rally.
When all is said and done the historians are going to have a field day with this one. My one concern is that the Dems will be unable to beat Trump because they didn't want to upset anybody - except each other....

Removing glass-steagal was the worst of it. He did it, literally, in the last minutes of his tenure. There has been any number of tires to restore it to no avail. If the Dems actually win it all my hope that restoration becomes one of the very first things they do. Perhaps the house should pass the restoration right now so they can jump on it right along with the almost 450 other bills awaiting some attention in the Senate. By the time Clinton signed off, Glass-Steagal was already dying from a thousand small cuts administered over an almost four year period thanks to the Gingrich Congress. There was almost nothing left to sign off on.
