Been working on the backyard fence as a social distancing hobby. It needed upgrading in order to keep the chickens and the Sulcata tortoise in, and the deer, coyotes, and javelina out.
Since I'm a dedicated CharMan I decided that instead of spending a thousand $mackers on high dollar exterior wood finish, I'd char the pine boards instead. It's easy to do and I'll get the whole fence done on about $30 worth of propane with a weed burner, in about 1/4 the time, too. Two things about charring wood for a finish; the char is a coating and a preservative; and the wood layer under the char is torrefied, which also reduces its susceptibility to weathering and rot.
