Do you suppose that Ol' Gut-fer-branes will make a good decision today about "re-opening America"?

Either empathy or the free rat wants to have sex with the trapped rat, while it's eating it's chocolate.

Seriously though, as anybody who has had a pet rat knows, rats are very friendly and social even with humans!

There is a growing body of research showing that animals respond to the emotions of others. But it wasn't certain whether rats could suppress their own greed in order to aid another rat.

Following a two-week introduction period, pairs of rats were put inside an arena. One was trapped inside a central restrainer, while the other roamed free in the larger space. By day six or seven, on average, the roaming rat learned to free the trapped rat.

When chocolate was introduced to the mix, there was no difference in the time taken to free the trapped cage-mate, despite pitting freeing the trapped cage-mate against getting a tasty treat. Furthermore, the helper rats did not eat all the chocolate chips. Instead, they often left a few chocolate chips for the trapped rats to eat upon release.

Clearly, Trumpers are not even as good as rats.

Cooperation is a successful strategy.

A single rat is inconsequential, it's kinda cute and doesn't eat much.

A pack of rats gets the exterminator called and all the rats die.

Just speaking from personal experience.

It's successful for the rats. Which is kind of my point.

Has anybody else noticed that the air is cleaner where you live? New Mexico is famous for stunningly clear air, which is what attracted O'Keefe and Stieglitz to permanently move from the East Coast to northern NM and the Ghost Ranch. There has been many a time that I thought of that and wondered if I was having the same experience they did, as the views were rarely what I would consider "stunning".

On Saturday I was out for a little hike in the Burro Mountains and was truly stunned by the clarity and vivid colors of the landscape - like nothing I had ever seen before. And this morning's sunrise struck me the same way.

Incredible...

I live in the swamp, the air is always thick and steamy here. There are notes of rotting vegetation and if a breeze should stir there is sometimes the scent of a skunk ape or the foetid stench of a swamp dragons lair. There is no high point where I could achieve a clear view of my surroundings but it is unlikely the miasma that lays over my world has cleared to any degree.

Good example of "compare and contrast".
