Hey, I don't want to be seen as the conservative, ultra-right-wing guy here, because I'm not. I'm a centrist, and in most domestic matters I lean left. But I'm not as against corporations as some people here may be. Sure, I did not like Trump's huge tax cut that benefited the 1% and the corporations. Sure, I'm not for corporate welfare.
But I do have a healthy respect for American capitalism. A lot of people (not necessarily the people posting here; no blame or accusation intended) don't understand that regular Americans, middle-class Americans, and even lower-class Americans depend on Wall Street much more than they imagine (for example, those retirement plans will suffer if Wall Street tanks). Capitalism made of America the wealthiest country in the world and the majority of the population enjoys a quality of life higher than that of the overwhelming majority of the world. So, in principle I don't see with the greatest enthusiasm ideas like "let's just divert 200 billion dollars from corporations to pay for remdesivir."
That's one of the reasons why I never warmed up to Bernie Sanders. When the solution for most problems is to tax the rich, often you run out of rich people to tax, like many European countries realized, when they over-taxed theirs and the rich simply literally took their business elsewhere, moving out of the country and taking away their assets. Remember, France saw its internal revenue DROP when they over-taxed the rich, then they had to cancel those taxes as they were losing more money than they were collecting, with the rich fleeing the country.
